Residents speak out as search for Walkersville Community Park attacker continues
Maryland State Police continued the search Monday for a man they say tried to sexually assault two women who were jogging at Walkersville Community Park on Sunday afternoon.
Sgt. Marc Black said two women were jogging together at the park off Kenneth Drive at about 3:30 p.m. Sunday when the man grabbed one of them, a 37-year-old woman, from behind. As she fought back, the man tried to pull down her running pants. Her running partner, a 50-year-old woman, came to her defense and called 911. The man ran toward Walkersville High School, police said. Black said neither woman was hurt.
Scary! For all you runners out there the article has good tips for running safely from the Frederick Steeplechasers’ Running Club:
Monaghan-Geernaert suggested that joggers run with partners whenever possible. If jogging alone, runners should carry a cellphone and, if listening to music, use only one headphone. Joggers should also travel against traffic and let others know about their route. She also suggested making eye contact with passers-by. Joggers should glance over their shoulder while passing others, to make certain “you’re not going to be taken by surprise,” Monaghan-Geernaert said.
