    • A friend who lives out that way says it’s apartments, and that all of that land next to the Banner School is also going to be developed.

      • Would love to see some retail there. Maybe just a place I could walk to and pick up a gallon of milk! LOL! I feel like living out there is a retail wasteland. I hate having to hop in my car for every little thing.

  1. Have to admit…..we’ve lived in Frederick a total of 10 years and I didn’t even know that the street numbers went that high. 🙂 I had to look at Google maps to figure out where 16th Street is. So..answer to the question? What’s being built?

  2. Has anyone tried Café Bueno on East Street? I think someone may have commented on it a bit ago, but if they did I cannot find it. The online reviews look good and we were thinking of picking up dinner from there.

      • The only thing I’ve read, other than here, about that was dated in October on WTOP…nothing since.

        I guess we’ll have 3 WaWas to go with our 3 WalMarts…:-p

  3. Does anyone know what is going on with The Gazette (weekly)? For the past 3 weeks, there has been no publication, only a folded Gazette ad stuffed with advertising flyers. Is there no longer an actual publication? Just curious.

    • Yes, that is correct, the gazette had an article in the last issue saying that the cost for circulation was too much and they would be discontinuing the Frederick Gazette. Montco and one other (cant remember which) will still be published. Boo! I enjoyed that little paper.

  4. @Diana: we go to Cafe Bueno almost weekly. They have a great chicken burrito (salsa verde style) is a must. They also have fish tacos that we get. The space is nice and bright inside. A small amount of tables to sit at or equally utilized is calling ahead for carryout.

    Enjoy!

    • Hubby rode his motorcycle to Cafe Bueno this morning to have their huevos con burritos. He loved them. 🙂 As for me I was on the AT leading a 7 mile hike with 7 ladies. 🙂

      • We ordered Café Bueno for dinner Friday. Husband and I tried the chicken and chorizo torta, tacos al pastor and a fajita salad. Will definitely go there again. Thanks all.

  5. Does anyone have any experience (good, bad, indifferent) with the Crystal Lume Medical Spa that is off of 7th Street? They have a nice Groupon offer out there right now that is tempting. I can only find 3 reviews online….

    • I went there for laser hair removal on my face. I can’t say that it worked at all… But that is because my hair wasn’t dark enough I think. The lady who runs it is very nice!

  7. I was so excited to go and vote for Frederick as my fave main street, but disappointingly, it is not a choice. How can they use our storefronts and not allow us on the list? Boo Benjamin Moore!

      • It is for main streets that NEED to be revitalized. They are repainting 20 main streets across the country, that is why Sykesville is in there, it really does need revitalization. While Frederick may need some help in some places, it is also a success story they are using as advertising (here, your town can look like the pretty painted town of Frederick) Frederick is not in need as the other towns on the list. You are not voting for a favorite main street, you are voting on repainting a main street.

      • Yes, Sykesville is really pushing this. It would be nice for them, they are really trying to bring up the downtown area.

  8. We’re leaving for Peru early tomorrow morning for 10 days. I was looking for Peruvian restaurants in Frederick for tonight’s dinner and I take it Sardi’s is no longer on McCain Drive? There are Yelp reviews for it but the Sardi’s website lists only 2 locations – none in Frederick. We don’t have the time tonight to drive out of town 😦

  9. While not in Frederick, take a drive to Gaithersburg and visit The Nibbler Restaurant for Peruvian food. Very small, quaint place in a very simple strip mall. Run by a husband and wife team. No frills, seat yourself type of place. Clean, neat painted murals on their walls. Tends to be a bit pricier than I’d like but worth a trip every now and again.

Their ropa vieja dish is yum and their green sauce is delicious.

  10. Does anybody know what’s being built on East Street just outside of the park outside Monocacy Meadows, north of Family Meal, all kinds of heavy equipment is over there clearing the land. A search reveals over a year ago a mountain bike pump track was to be built at the park, but the project there seems way too big for a pump track. Anyone know? I live in Monocacy Meadows, and I’m an avid mountain biker, so this would be awesome, but I don’t that’s what this is.

    Like

    • Chris – it is indeed the pump track project moving forward. The city has donated the dirt to the project. Construction will start in the near future, it will be located where the large dirt piles are.

      • As a follow up, the large area being cleared by bulldozers is not part of the pump track project. The pump track is a small project directly across from the gas stations.

I suspect the larger land clearing is part of a larger mixed use development plan that has been in the works for a while on property surrounding the Banner School, although where construction currently is appears to be further south than where I understood this to be.

      • the heavy equipment is preparing for construction of … more townhouses. and a few single family homes, but mostly townhouses. pretty much all of the area surrounding the Northampton property and the Banner school.

  12. Does anyone know what is going to be built in Adamstown next to Stumps Market (corner of Mountville Rd and Adamstown Rd)? They are clearing a ton of land, but there are no signs up indicating if they are just putting up more houses or if a business is going to come in.

    • Don’t know if that’s the location for it, but I did read awhile back that a new Catholic church would be breaking ground out that way. I have no idea what piece of land it’s being built on, though. I have a friend in Adamstown so I’ll ask her.

      Like

      • It’s not the new church. My friend out there has no idea what’s going in. They haven’t heard anything.

        Like

      • The new Catholic church may be off Carroll Manor Road, which is close. They’ve been working on a new parking lot before the church starts.

  14. A friend said that Avalon is for sale now (the crab place). Didn’t someone else mention that they thought the old Liberty Road Seafood restaurant had been bought and was being fixed up again? Maybe Avalon is growing into bigger quarters?

      • Saw a large amount of cars in the parking lot today at Liberty Seafood….no signs or anything. But the window blinds were open and you could see prepped tables with condiments and flowers and such. I didn’t see any Sale signs or anything at Avalons.
