  1. Anyone know what is going up downtown on the corner of East and South, right across from the new school board office? Lots of construction there.

  2. I would like to give a nod to a great lunch had the other day at Cafe Bueno, on East St. @ 5th St., downtown. Great food, casual atmosphere, bright & cheerful, small mexican restaurant. The chicken burrito salsa verde style is delicious! Looking forward to more meals!

  3. Can anyone suggest a decent place for Mother’s Day brunch that might have reservations still (other than Dutch’s Daughter; we did that last year) for a family with three kids age 8, 4, 2.

    Thanks!

  4. Just a reminder to anyone who is interested- tonight 5/9 at 7pm the Fredericktowne Mall developers will again present their plans for the Mall which is to include a Walmart SuperCenter. the meeting will be held at the old BonTon space at the mall. Remember the issue is about zoning, currently the property is zoned mixed use, the owners want it to be general commercial and this presentation is what they will build if it gets zoned GC. The Planning Commission has recommended that zoning stay MU. It will ultimately go to the Alderman for a vote.

    • How long are the meetings? I won’t be able to get there until 7:15 or so, so I wasn’t sure if it would still be worth it.

      • i would imagine it will be going on for awhile since it is open to the whole community- it is why it was scheduled for the bon ton space to make sure there was plenty of room. if it is run like the recent NAC meeting, they will present the plans (several reps are involved) and then have a Q anA discussion.

  5. Any news on El Ranchero in the Common Market shopping center? We love this mexican restaurant but they’ve been closed with the blinds pulled since Sunday (Cinco de Mayo). There is no sign on the door.

    • Hi Ladybug- at last week’s meeting the walmart rep stated that they own the piece of land where they are currently located. And according to her, have been approached by a “few” interested parties. Again it may be rented or sold as per the rep. Basically they are moving from the one side of 26 to the other. I have thought it was because of Wegman’s being on that side, they want to get more of the traffic flow. It does seem like a huge endeavor to literally just move across the street, but as they keep saying at these meetings they have done all sorts of studies on what works, etc. So i guess we just have to wait and see…

  7. There was a sign for a new “European” bakery preparing to open on the south side of Market Street on the left before the Creek, but I didn’t see the name while driving. Any news on this?

  8. Apparently, Micks on West Patrick Street (Formerly Jennifer’s back in the day) is no more. I used to love the place until the awesome chef moved to Florida a couple of years ago.

      • Ugh typos!

“Oh no! Granted my wife and I only ate there once. That’s a shame, because we really enjoyed it.”

      • That’s a fairly typical response every time I mention this place. It was good until the original chef left (I believe he was the owner’s son). I’m sorry to see them close up but at every turn I heard a lot of negative feed back about that place.

  9. Anyone hear anything about the international grocery store G Mart on the Golden Mile? It has been “opening soon” for something like nine months.

    • I haven’t heard anything…I have been looking on the web and looking up info from the company and can’t find anything. Hopefully someone may have heard something. I have been very interested if it is anything like Lotte

    • Yeah, I was just wondering about that this weekend as well… the “coming soon” signs went up almost as soon as the Giant signage was taken down… then nothing. For a while, I was hearing Q1 2013 but at this point Q2 is almost gone…

  10. Does anyone know when the Home Goods near Wegman’s is supposed to open? I looked on the Home Good site and it doesn’t even list a location opening soon in Maryland. Thanks.

      • I work at the FSK Mall Customer Service…BJ’s is being built in the Parking lot of the JC Penny/Macy’s Parking lot. If you go up to the Fenced off part of the lot attached to the Fence is a banner that says BJ’s is coming. There is also another Banner on the Fence that Says they are Hiring and give a link to where you should go apply if you want to work there.

I don’t know when it should be done being built and open for business. Just know BJ’s IS coming!!

  14. If you’re in need of laughter, I highly recommend Pickle My Monkey at the Maryland Ensemble Theatre playing Thursday and weekends through 6/9. It’s not for the easily offended or the young (R rating imo) but everybody else will have a great time. With the fine acting and the many laughs, it’s one of the best plays we’ve seen there.
