  1. I thought the blue bbq truck behind Snakeman’s was open on Sundays, but it wasn’t yesterday. Where the heck does one get good bbq in Frederick on a Sunday?

    • Blues was open on sundays but it seems lately they are only open when they feel like it. With blackhog being closed on sundays, it doesnt leave much outside of famous daves. Wegmans has some okay bbq, and theres also Chubby’s bbq if you trek up 15north a ways.

      • Chubby’s was the only other place I could think of, but I didnt’ have time to go all the way up to Emmitsburg. Famous Dave’s or Wegman’s just wouldn’t cut it. Anyone know when the Carroll Creek location of Blue’s is supposed to open?

    • If you are in the Mt. Airy area, Carterque is great, and also open on Sundays. Also, a bit out of the area, but well worth the drive is the roadside The Pit Stop (south on Rt. 15 at Gilbert’s Corner, VA). We had it for the first time several weeks ago. We enjoyed our pulled pork sandwiches so much, that we got a rack of ribs to go for later! Just fabulous! A bonus is that you can also pick up lobster and seafood at the lobster stand, and local produce at the local produce stand both also set up there. FYI – The Pit Stop is set up Friday through Sunday.

      • The Pit Stop sounds great, I’ll have to remember that if I’m ever down in Va. My usual fallback, depending on time/logistics, is to head down to Sandy Spring and go to Urban BBQ. Unfortunately, though, didn’t have time for that this past weekend.

  2. Anyone familiar with the Tasker’s Chance community off of Key Parkway (intersects w/ Baughman’s Lane)? We are considering buying a home there are interested in any available feedback.

    • Hi Theresa,

We here in Taskers are very happy. We are a Community of between 750 and 800 homes with a mixture of townhomes and single family homes. We are a very diverse Community of cultures and age groups which uniquely wonderful. We have an Olympic size pool and a very active Community. Most of our residents are subscribed to a closed community list-serve for convenient communication of events, meetings, and police activity in the area. We have an active Neighborhood Watch Organization throughout Taskers. I am sure you will be happy to live within our Community. If you decide to join us, we will need to communicate so that you can become part of the list-serve. Have a great day.

      • B.Morton, thanks for posting this. We actually looked for a home in Taskers three years ago when we were house hunting, but were trying to find something other than a town home, eventhough those were bigger than our former town home. We ended up getting home on Hillcrest and eventhough Hillcrest gets a bad rep, we’ve been pretty happy with our decision and our neighbors.

Good luck Theresa with your house hunting!

  3. Just wanted to let everyone know that Urbana District Park is opening today! My company (day job) installed all the playgrounds and we’ll be out there today taking photos of all the kids playing! Come on out if you’re home and want to see the park. It’s beautiful!

  4. Is there any place in Frederick where I can exchange foreign currency for US$? I was cleaning out a drawer today and came across Canadian money, in bills and cash, and some other currencies from past trips. Our own bank, Wells Fargo, refuses to take it, insisting that I have to call up their Foreign Exchange division. I just want to take it somewhere simple and get it exchanged. I won’t be going near any of the big airports any time soon, so that’s not going to work.

    • I’m not sure if they do currency exchange, but maybe the AAA office?

On another note, when I tried to get some foreign currency from PNC bank their rates were horrible. It wasn’t worth it. I just used an ATM when I got to my destination.

      • We always take some with us to start with. Seems to me that getting off the plane and walking straight to an ATM after luggage and customs just screams “tourist! mug me!” But as we run out then we use ATMs.

      • Yeah we don’t do that. Hahaha. Not that dumb. We usually are taking the metro or train from the airport and use credit cards to purchase the fare ticket.

    • If you have any Euros or UK currency you can take it to the British store on Market Street and use it for purchases. They have a nice wine selection. 🙂

  5. A friend of mine asks:
“Just out of curiosity: there’s a whistle that you can hear downtown that sounds at 12 and 5. Does anyone know where its coming from?”
