  1. By the way, I saw another “Coming Soon” sign. In the 7th street shopping center down towards Ashley Furniture: Los Toltecos Bar and Grille Coming Soon!

      • Thanks for finding the site! I posted this as I was running out the door this morning and didn’t think to try to look for a website.

    • Monday is one of the slowest days in the restrauant industry. Since most Restaurants are open extended hours over the weekend Monday is the day they tend to take off. It’s pretty typical everywhere not just Frederick.

  2. Just wanted to let people know about Wellness Saturday, May 26th, at Hollow Creek Golf Club in Middletown, MD. The event will last from 9AM- 5PM and is free and open to the general public. It will consist of health related specialists offering their services for free and some health related or organic related businesses selling their products. You do not have to golf or be a golfer to attend the event. This is sponsored by the non-profit Golf To End Cancer and is designed to help educate people about living a healthy lifestyle to prevent cancer. Their will be putting contests, raffles and educational material available. There are still spots open for health related vendors to participate for a minimal 100 dollar fee. Have them contact me at Thanks.

  3. Cocktails for a Cause is hosting its next event June 21 from 5-8 p.m. at Sushi Densha. If you haven’t tried out this new(ish) restaurant yet, this is a great opportunity to have a fun time and support a local charity.

The event will support our beneficiary organization, Children of Incarcerated Parents Partnership (COIPP)!

Admission is $15 and must be pre-paid because this event will sellout! Register online by clicking on the “Register for our next event!” link at the top of our webpage at

    About COIPP:

Mission: Assist children and their caregivers when a parent is incarcerated and to communicate their needs and share their plight with the community.

This non-profit, voluntary group has accomplished much in the past few years. Projects include: creation of a library/book giveaway for children in the Frederick County Detention Center waiting room; resource baggies for children and their caregivers; ‘Caregivers day out’ at the Jefferson School of Cosmetology; creation of a DVD on this topic; donations and resource packets to local camps created for the children; and much more.

Sushi Densha is located at 5010 Buckeytown Pike, Suite 148, Frederick, MD 21704 (located near Cici’s Pizza). Hope to see you there!

  4. Does anyone have a recommendation for a wallpaper stripper? We have a few rooms with plaster walls covered by wallpaper and more wallpaper and some wallpaper is even painted! We live near Baker Park.

    Thanks much!

    • Molly, if you want to try doing it yourself, I found that windshield wiper fluid or Windex works better than the liquid or gel remover at the hardware store (and much cheaper). Fill a spray bottle, score the wall papered service and spray. Wait a few minutes and you can scrape/pull it off. It may come off in layers if it is really old, but it will come off.

      • We had good luck with liquid fabric softener and hot water in a spray bottle. But at one point we had to borrow a steamer to get the really tough spots off. Wallpaper removal is such a pain!

    • Thanks for the tips! We are doing some rooms ourselves but we need to hire someone to do a few. I tried removal and I haven’t made much progress since December so it’s time for professional help. I joined Angie’s List to see what I could find. Thanks!
