  1. I’ve noticed a new addition being built onto Lighthouse Seafood in New Market. It looks almost like it could be a restaurant. Has anyone heard anything?

  2. Has anyone else noticed that for the past few months on the FNP website that every time you click a story (the first time) you get an annoying hover ad? My pop up blocker won’t block them. I find this to be extremely annoying that they’d do this. Also, the huge ads at the top of the page take a long time to load and make the site extremely slow. Almost makes me avoid the site.

    • What the heck happened with that show? I was so sorry to see Rona go, but eventually warmed up to Stacy & Tommy. NOW, I can barely stand to listen to it anymore. The two that are on there with Tommy are pretty bad.

  3. Just curious. How does the place on 355 near May’s, Roasthouse Pub, etc. called “The Silver Lining Spa” get away with anything but “spa services?” I assume they are not a mani/pedi type of venue, at least by looks. More about the happy ending than choosing a polish color? Can anyone provide a review?

    • wow….I drive past this place quite frequently…..to be honest, I thought they sold spas and hot tubs? Goes to show how much I know…..but in this case I’m glad I was clueless…amazing places like this exist.

      • I went there once by curiosity and found out that IT IS creepy!!
I walked up to the outside door and knocked, no one answered so I walked in and an Asian lady met me at another door to the right (the front and left side of me were blocked as to make a squared section and
require another door. I asked do you do Massages she said “Yes”
and I asked how much…she told me and then said, pay now and then
come in. I was like Woah…Thats wierd!! Plus I saw someone
behind her walking around in a Bathrobe. I said No Thanks and Got
        the He$$ out of there!!

  4. Does anybody have any experience with the leash laws in Frederick? I had an encounter with a jogger downtown who jogs with a dog off leash. The dog seems well behaved, but runs about a 1/2 block ahead of the runner (kind of dangerous with no owner control). The dog spooked mine and the jogger had a rude reaction to my dog’s instinct to bark. Anyone have any experience with this? It just seems dangerous to me.

    • There is a leash law. I remember when Roy Meachum got it trouble from the police for letting Pushkin walk ahead of him. She isn’t the deaf woman jogger, is she?

  5. What are the thoughts on Hinode? We’ve never been, and the reviews on-line are fairly old. We’d like to try it Saturday night. We’d be with a couple that lived in Japan so they know authentic and good Japanese food.

    • I’ve been to Hinode recently and it was an odd experience. The food was good but not great, I think next time I go I will get sushi to change things up. Everything seemed a little plain but I think that’s totally personal preference.

I will say that you should plan on being there for the long haul. Service was really slow and kind of random. They were all very friendly though! Just make sure you have a full glass before eating something spicy…

    • I haven’t been in 3+ years, but the time that I went was so unimpressive and expensive that I don’t want to return. If you go, I’d love to hear what you and your friends think of it.

      • While we want value for money, it’s also about speed of service and walking proximity to the MET as we’re going there after dinner. We all went to Fellini’s a couple of weeks ago and it was disastrous – 45 minutes to get our food, items that never arrived at all, complete confusion over 2 simple checks (one check for each married couple – pretty simplistic) and having to rush out to get to the theater in time. We don’t want that same experience somewhere else. I will suggest Sumitra. I’ve been there once before, for lunch, and thought it was excellent.

      • I’ve always felt like Cacique was quick to seat and serve its customers. Sumitra I’ve only been to once, but the food was excellent and I’ve always enjoyed Cacique’s food.

I’ll probably be dining in downtown Frederick too, before the show with my wife, but I’m not sure where we’ll be eating. I’ll need to get efficient service too…it would be bad if I was late to it. πŸ™‚

      • We’ve opted for Sumittra. We’ve never been to Cacique but to be brutally honest, after living in California and Arizona and traveling thru Mexico, New Mexico, and Texas…..there isn’t a “Mexican” restaurant in town that seems to be able to put something other than TV dinner grade “Mexican” food on the table. It all seems to be what they think Mexican food is like. We’ll try Cacique for lunch sometime – less monetary risk. πŸ™‚

      • Gypsy,
think of Cacique as Spanish not Mexican ( at least that is how i view it and select from the menu. Always happy with food there – don’t think of it as La Paz, casa rico, etc etc that are “mexican” very different atmosphere. i bet you will like it!

      • Try Santa Rosa on Baughman’s Lane if you want Spanish or Salvadorean food and the real AUTHENTIC stuff! I think it’s wonderful…and very reasonable, and the place is nice. Clean and nicely decorated with a juke box full of Spanish music to boot!

      • We used to go to Hinode’s all the time and sit at the sushi bar for dinner. We would typically get their sushi/sahimi combo platters. The last time we were there the combo platter had less than they usually put on the combo (19 pieces I think). We had to ask for the missing sashimi. The guys behind the sushi counter didn’t seem to be experts in sushi making. It just wasn’t the same as our other visits.

  6. The food and atmosphere are good but I have had much better food at other restaurants. I’m not sure how someone from Japan will feel about the food as I think it is very Americanized.

The sushi is always good, small rolls but tastes is always fresh.

  7. Who knew? That link makes it pretty clear if you read the review from 11/06/11 that you can get a rub n tug but no FS, BTW what is FS? I would never need/use such a service so the lingo is beyond me, however in an effort to be educated and well rounded…just kidding, I dont want to know, and I dont care, and I hope I have sanitizer close if I come into contact with anyone who boasts of a visit there.

    • We’ve been to Roasthouse Pub twice. (My husband and I are big into craft brew) The first time we were not impressed with the food. The second time we just had the beef tips and a few beers at the bar. The beef tips convinced us we need to go back and give dinner another shot because they were so good.

    • Roasthouse Pub is good. I agree with Diana that it takes a couple of visits. We went very soon after the opening and they didn’t have everything down pat yet, but the second visit was much better. It’s always packed there, so others must agree. I really like the rotating selection of microbrews too.

    • Been there four times now, for lunch each time…and had amazing jambalaya twice! Delicious spicy tomato bisque, Very good Pulled Pork sandwich, and even desserts that were pretty impressive. Chocolate Creme Brulee, WOW! And a Bread Pudding with a really yummy sauce (caramel, I think). Do try them out, they have a really good chef!!
