Farms, Evil Dead, and More Octoberfest

Another packed weekend of fall fun:

  • All of the local farms (e.g. Summers , Gaver, and Lawyers Moonlight Maze) are in full swing with their fall events (pumpkin patches, corn mazes, etc.). In addition to the regular fall farm events this weekend there is Family Festival @ the Farm: “On October 15 and 16, twenty four local farms are opening their doors for the 10th annual self-guided tour. There’s no entrance fee, no ticket required…just travel the countryside and stop at one, two, or all twenty four of the farms for a fun-filled visit.”
  • The Schifferstadt Architectural Museum is hosting their annual Octoberfest: “This traditional eating, drinking and dancing festival takes place the third full weekend of October each year, rain or shine. It features a beer tent, German food (wurst from the purveyor to the German Embassy), oompah band, German cultural activities, juried arts and crafts, colonial living history demonstrators and children’s fun. Admission is free to the Oktoberfest grounds. Tours of the Schifferstadt Architectural Museum are $3.00 (12 and under free) and include special hearth cooking demonstrations. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.”
  • For some adult Halloween-related fun, Evil Dead The Musical is playing at the Frederick Cultural Arts Center this weekend. “Enjoy this hilarious live stage show that takes all the elements of the cult classic horror films, Evil Dead 1, Evil Dead 2, and Army of Darkness then combines them to make one of the craziest theatrical experiences of all time. Beware the splash zone – it’s not a joke! Performances are Friday and Saturday evenings at 8:00pm. Tickets are $20 – to purchase tickets or for more information, call the FAC at 301-662-4190.”

  1. Hands down the best weekend in Frederick. Seriously. Last year we did the Farm festivities and me, my husband and his parents enjoyed it immensely (no kids, adults still had fun). Then the Oktoberfest at Shifferstadt is so neat. It’s about 100 times better than the fair grounds Oktoberfest. Hopefully the weather is as beautiful as it was last year.
