May 2010 Events in Frederick County

May is always a busy month in Frederick County.  Here are a few events that I’ve found for the month of May.  I can’t list them all here so feel free to add any event that you know of in the comments section.  For a more complete list, check out the calendar of events on the Frederick Tourism website.

May 1st is First Saturday with the theme Mayfest 2010:

Downtown Frederick celebrates springtime with a full of fun and flowers! Build-a-Bouquet by collecting FREE flowers and spring things from participating merchants and leave downtown with a beautiful bouquet at the end of the day! See and bid on beautiful May Baskets created by downtown merchants and help raise funds for Downtown Frederick Partnership. Take part in children’s activities including Decorate-a-Visor, Pipe Cleaner Flowers, Daisy Chains & more!  View beautiful works of Sidewalk Chalk Art created by local art students.  Enjoy live music and entertainment throughout the day!

May 8th is the Pangaea Frederick Festival.

May 8th is also the Frederick Celtic Festival, this year to be held at the Frederick Fairgrounds:

One hundred thousand welcomes to the site for Maryland’s Celtic Event! Get ready to party with the Celts at the 11th Annual Frederick Celtic Festival, to be held May 8, 2010 at the Frederick Fairgrounds, from 10am to 7pm.

Alive @ Five kicks off the season on May 13th.

The Frederick Keys are home for several dates in May.

May 13, 14, 15 and 16 is the annual Greek Festival at Saints Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church on 7th Street.

May 22nd has what sounds like a fun family event called Rock the Farm Family Festival at Crumland Farms.  Here’s more info from Tots 2 Tweens:

Rock the Farm Family Festival will hit Crumland Farms on May 22nd and will benefit the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund, a national charity that benefits our soldiers.

The main stage will feature 3 live bands including: Grammy Nominated artists (12 times!) Cathy & Marcy, Milkshake (the full 6-piece band!) and The Dirty Sock Funtime Band (as seen on Noggin), a second stage will be filled with music from Kidsinger Jim & Friends and magic by Frank Culler.

Included with admission – tons of FREE stuff: there will be strolling entertainment, face painting, balloon twisting, moon bounces and a Guitar Hero challenge.

You can visit lots of vendors, buy some great food and drink (retail purchases, food and drink are not included in ticket price) and lots more!!

May 29th is the Maryland Brewer’s Springfest at Harry Grove Stadium.

May 29th and 30th is the Caribbean Wine Festival at Linganore Winecellars.

  1. This is about an event in June, but the Dept. of Economic Development is looking now for local people to help the pilots flying in. I got this email today:

    Frederick to welcome air racers

The organizers of the 2010 Air Race Classic are in need of community liasions for race teams flying in the air race which ends here at the Frederick Municpal Airport on Thursday June 24th and Friday June 25th.

The racers will be in Frederick the weekend of June 26, 27, 28, attending race events. Liaisons will be matched up with one or more racers and be on-call to assist if needed and would be asked to provide a cell phone number to be available for any last minute requests, transportation between events or emergencies. Racers begin arriving at FDK (Frederick Airport) Thursday June 24th and finish June 25th, spending the next few days experiencing Frederick.

This exciting event starts in Fort Myers, Florida and ends in Historic Frederick at FDK, celebrating 100 years of licensed women pilots. For more information on the race, visit their website http://www.arcterminus2010.com/default.asp

If you are interested in representing Frederick and assisting the racers as they visit our historic City, please contact The City of Frederick, Economic Development at 301-600-6360.
