February 2010 Events in Frederick County

I just realized January is already almost over.   I guess I had better get to the February events already!  As always, feel free to add any events that you know of in the comments.  For a more complete list, check out the Frederick Tourism Calendar of Events.

First Saturday, February 6th, has the theme Fire in Ice:

Spark a little romance or just spend time with the ones you love during the February First Saturday, February 6th, 5 – 9pm in Downtown Frederick!  Enjoy frosty fun with over 30 sparkling ice sculptures located throughout downtown, a LIVE ice carving demonstration, an interactive ice playground and more!  Warm up with free hot cocoa and marshmallow roasting stations as you walk the streets with your loved ones and enjoy the sights and sounds of evening.  Also, enjoy guest artists, exhibit openings and special activities at downtown’s many specialty stores and restaurants from 5 – 9pm.

(Remember last year when it was so warm that the ice sculptures were melting?  Yeah, pretty sure we won’t have to worry about that this year!)

Also on February 6th is the Daddy Daughter Dance at the Fairground’s EventPlex.  For girls aged 4-12, the event runs from 6-8:30 and is $40.00/couple.

Take your little princess out for a night to remember. Dress to impress while we dance the night away. Photo opportunities will be available and light refreshments will be served. Space is limited so sign up early. Princesses must be accompanied by an adult male.

Every weekend in February, check out the 19th annual Cask to Kisses at Linganore Winecellars.

Sweeten your senses by pairing perfectly matched Linganore wines and chocolates at our 19th annual month long ‘Cask to Kisses’! Throughout the month, patrons are invited to join Linganore and three celebrated chocolatiers . Seven decadent choices will be available, including, Chocolate Covered Dried Cherries by Kirchmayr Chocolatier and Chocolate Covered Cherries filled with Linganore Merlot from the Treat Shop & Chocolate Factory in Westminster, and Perugina’s Italian chocolates from Premium Chocolates of Oakland, New Jersey. Each ‘Cask to Kisses’ tasting plate is $5.

February 13th and 14th, head over to  Wastler Construction, 8005 Reich’s Ford Road, for an antique toy show and auction.

Also on February 13th and 14th is the Cabin Fever Festival at the Frederick Fairgrounds.

February 14 is of course Valentine’s Day.  Don’t forget that that is also the same weekend that Gabriel’s Inn is closing it’s doors forever.  Other special Valentine’s Day menus that I can find are at Brewer’s AlleyAcacia, and The Cellar Door.  Please let us know of others and I’ll update when I learn of more.

February 16th is the Progressive Dinner.

Here is the complete February calendar of events for all branches of the Frederick County Public Library system.  Check out the 20th, All Day BookFest 2010, themed Superheroes.  Description from the tourism website:

  1. DanceWorks Ballroom and Latin offers gift certificates for your Valentine, and we’re also having a Valentine’s Day Dance on Sunday 2/14 from 2:00pm-4:00pm featuring mini-dance lessons every half hour for non-dancers. Enjoy our romantic music, non-alcoholic punch, and chocolate fountain while you make this Valentine’s Day one to remember. Dance tickets are just $30/couple.

  2. Hey Guy and Liz – Just saw that that First Saturday has been rescheduled again and moved to the 20th. Before you know it, we can call it “Last Satuday” !!

  3. Another notice I saw about a cancellation read “The FFA/Alumni Butchering is canceled.” Well, I bet the Alumni were relieved to hear that! Can’t the Future Farmers find some actual farm animals to butcher?! 🙂

Side note: Up here on the hill in Whittier we had a City plow arrive at 3:15 pm and another around 5 pm. Hubby left for work at 4 am (commutes to Springfield VA) this morning and had no problems on any of the roads or the highways. Time to get OUT of the house!

  4. State of Emergency is still in effect for Frederick. Everyone should head that warning until noon today. Roads may be clear on highways but side roads may be passable not the greatest for getting two cars through at the same time.
