Local chef to compete on Top Chef TV show

Bryan Voltaggio, chef and co-owner of Frederick’s own VOLT Restaurant, is going to be a contestant on season six of Bravo’s Top Chef TV show.  From the Baltimore Sun:

The chefs competing in Season Six, which starts August 26, have just been announced…

…a Maryland restaurant has a second contestant, Bryan Voltaggio of Volt in Frederick. His brother Michael, originally from Frederick and last chef de cuisine at Jose Andres’s Bazaar in Los Angeles, is the third Marylander on the show.

Check out Bryan’s Bio and size up his competition on Bravo’s Top Chef website.

      • You should try their express lunch menu sometime. $14 gets you any 3 items on the menu. Could be a side, main and dessert, could be 3 burgers, doesn’t matter. I recommend the hanger steak and lamb burger. CRAZY good.

  1. Well, I’m definitely going to watch season 6 now. Congrats to Bryan! Knowing what Top Chef did for Carla and Alchemy Catering, I hope Frederick’s ready for the surge of business this’ll bring to Volt 😉

  2. i don’t know how people contend that Volt is “so expensive”. It has to be because they haven’t been there. It is the most wonderful restaurant! Not only is the food INDESCRIBABLY delicious!!!!, the whole dining event is a wonderful experience! You know they are TRULY glad that you chose their restaurant and are happy to see you. The entire staff is superb! i drink Prosecco and find that it is no more expensive at Volt than anywhere else. i think people just assume it’s more expensive. Not once have i ever felt that i was charged more than what was deserved. One of my favorite treats is the burger they serve at lunch and also in the evening at the bar. It is dreamy! A sub costs what that burger costs and doesn’t even come close to the quality. This burger curls your toes! Have you ever seen a sub do that? (-* My daughter went there for lunch a couple of days ago and was just describing her meal. (They have a prix fixe lunch deal that should NOT be missed!) Just hearing the words had me wanting to jump in my car and drive up to Frederick that very moment! i am so excited for Brian. He deserves to have his talents rewarded for the whole world to see! Good luck, Brian!!!!

  4. How cool is that! I’ll have to watch the show. I’m not into reality tv but do watch top chef. It’s always interesting to see what people create. I just ignore all the bitching they do.

  5. I watched Chef Bryan do the Chef’s Challenge at the West Frederick Farmer’s Mkt today. A delight to watch and then he let us all taste the dessert…yum!

The Volt tasting menu is really expensive. But one can certainly eat there for a reasonable price.

  7. $14 IS A GOOD DEAL FOR LUNCH? 2 MCCHICKEN’S, FRIES, AND A LARGE SWEET TEA FOR $4 IS A GOOD DEAL AND IT TASTES BETTER THAN VOLT’S OVERRATED CRAP.

    • People like this is what gives Frederick a bad name. We want to legitimize ourselves as an up-and-coming, great community, and rid ourselves of the “Fredneck” label. Frederick is a city! It has so much more to offer than McDonald’s, endless cow pastures, and hillbillies. So annoying! Take some pride in your hometown!
