Enjoy an evening of exhibit openings, guest artists & live entertainment designed to showcase the best of Downtown Frederick the First Saturday of every month. More than 80 shops, galleries and restaurants are open until 9pm or later.

Frederick County Parks and Recreation is taking reservations for the Community Garden at Ballenger Creek Park, located at 5420 Ballenger Creek Pike, Frederick, MD 21703. Anyone who is interested in growing their own vegetables can rent a 15’ x 15’ garden plot, with access to water, a compost bin and parking. Garden plots can be rented from April 1st through November 15th for $67 per year. The garden will be accessible 7 days a week during park hours.

Maryland International Kids Film Fest (MIKFF) will take place on January 28th, starting at 10:00 am. Part of the Frederick Film Festival, it is the only film festival in the region aimed at a younger audience. The program will be organized by age groups, and will be completed with a Wallace & Gromit film. Ticket prices for this event are $10 for the day.

Decadent Desserts takes place at the Delaplaine Visual Arts Education Center on January 29th from 5:00 pm to 7:30 pm. Enjoy an evening of 1920s music, sipping libations, and nibbling scrumptious desserts. You can also have dinner with a 2 for 1 discount at Acacia, Brewers Alley or Isabellas by showing your Decadent Desserts tickets. Tickets for the event are $35 each. Does anyone know of other good sledding hills in Frederick?

 follows six diverse community acupuncture patients and shows the impact of affordable acupuncture on their lives and communities. Lindstrom tells the story of the community acupuncture movement: how a small group of loud-mouthed, over-educated, under-employed activists and a massive group of ordinary people with average incomes revolutionized healthcare services by using large empty rooms, old recliner chairs, and two-cent needles.

Doors at MDL Holiday Cinemas will open at 6:00 pm on January 30th, with the screening beginning at 6:30.  Tickets for the documentary are $10 and are redeemable for one free acupuncture session at The Turning Point.  Tickets can be purchased in advance at The Turning Point, 243 W Patrick Street in downtown Frederick.  They will also be available in advance and at the door at MDL Holiday Cinemas.

There is also a very nice article in the FNP today about Jessica, the clinic and the documentary.  I can’t think why I would need it but in the interest of full disclosure, I have been a patient at The Turning Point for a while now and was in the clinic the day the camera crew was filming scenes for the documentary, although I don’t think the camera ever made it over to me.

This is a great opportunity to support a local business owner and to perhaps learn about and try something new!

 Frederick Restaurant Week is a 7-day promotion that features the unique and fine dining options available in Downtown Frederick and the surrounding area. Participating restaurants will offer diners price-fixed meals at mouth-watering prices the week of March 5 – 11, 2012.

Featuring over a dozen restaurants, Frederick Restaurant Week is the perfect time to visit a favorite restaurant or try something new. Chefs will prepare delicious 2-course and 3-course special menus. During Frederick Restaurant Week, lunches are offered at $15.12 for a 2-course meal and $20.12 for a 3-course meal. Dinners are offered at $20.12 for a 2-course meal and $30.12 for a 3-course meal. All costs are exclusive of tax, beverages and gratuity.
