Baker Park Swinging Bridge

I had to dig deep into the archives to find out how long the Swinging Bridge in Baker Park has been closed for repairs. I’m a bit confused because the post I just linked to says it was written in March 2008, but I think the bridge closed in 2007 as quoted in the article in that post.

Anyways, I took a nice long walk this lovely morning and snapped this photo of the bridge finally going back up again. It’s been a long wait.

Sledding in Frederick

We haven’t had much snow to speak of this winter, but I tried to take my son sledding with the little we did get over the weekend. We tried the sled run at Pinecliff Park, but it was closed:

Does anyone know of other good sledding hills in Frederick?

Jim’s A Year in Photos Featured in FNP

The Frederick News-Post did a great piece on Jim Hamann’s Year in Frederick photo series:

The photo album is among 72 that Hamann has posted to his personal Flickr photo sharing account online. He recreationally posts his work as a sort of online portfolio and for the purpose of sharing his photos with others, he said.

“I did it just on a whim,” Hamann said of the album. “I was looking at a lot of newspapers around the country, and a lot of them were putting photos of ‘the year in review’ on their websites. I usually contribute a lot of my pictures to the Frederick Maryland Online website/online forum (www.frederickmarylandonline.com) and I had it in mind for them. I wanted to share (my photos from the year) with the community,” he said.

Thus, he looked back over the photos he had taken in 2011 and put the album together in a very “spur-of-the-moment” fashion, he said. Although most of his albums usually get approximately 150 views after upload, Hamann said, the “A Year in Frederick 2011″ album has already gotten more than 700 in the few weeks since he put it together and posted to Flickr.

Winter Photo Contest

Winter is coming so I thought I’d update Frederick Maryland Online’s banner to match the season. To help me out I will be putting on a fun little contest to find a new photo for the site’s banner. If you have a great winter themed photo of Frederick I hope you’ll submit it. Your photo will take the place of Jessica Hibbard‘s awesome spring shot and be kindly adorned with the FMO logo by Aynex Mercado.

The only rules are that your photo must be winter themed, taken in Frederick, and only one submission per person.

Please send your photos to me at guy1320@gmail.com. You can either attach it the message or provide me with a link to the photo online. I will take submissions until Monday, December 12th. After that I will set up voting so the Frederick Maryland Online readers can decide which photo will be in the new banner.

The winner will get their photo posted to the site and a credit on the About page along with a link to plug anything you want (e.g. a personal site).

Jim at Shereen’s Gallery this Saturday

If you’re downtown Frederick Saturday night for Gallery Walk I’ll be part of a showing at Shereen’s Gallery on N. Market. The reception/meet-the-photogs will be 5ish to 9ish. If I’m not there I’ll be next door at fine arts and antiques shop. The show runs through December…. : )
