Baker Park Swinging Bridge

I had to dig deep into the archives to find out how long the Swinging Bridge in Baker Park has been closed for repairs. I’m a bit confused because the post I just linked to says it was written in March 2008, but I think the bridge closed in 2007 as quoted in the article in that post.

Anyways, I took a nice long walk this lovely morning and snapped this photo of the bridge finally going back up again. It’s been a long wait.

Seven Years

I have a little calendar reminder that pops-up every year on this to date to remind me that another year has passed since I started this site. 7 years ago today I set-up a Blogger account and published this first post. Wow, that seems like a lifetime ago.

North Market Community Day

This is of special interest to me since I now live North of Fourth.

“LIFE & Discovery in conjunction with the Minority Outreach & Technical Assistance program, The Housing Authority of the City of Frederick , Frederick Memorial Hospital and Habitat for Humanity have teamed up to bring the public the first annual North Market Street Community Day.

The event is scheduled to take place Saturday, August 6th at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore, located at 622 North Market Street, from 11:00am – 4:00pm.

Come celebrate “North of Fourth” with food, fun, entertainment and special give-aways. Join us!”

I received one of the flyers in my door last week with more information about the “food, fun, entertainment and special give-aways”. This event will be held at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore and will have a Back Pack giveaway, face painting, Zumba demonstrations, health screenings, Frederick Keys ticket giveaway and food by Caribbean Soul and Moxie Bakery. Key 103 will be broadcasting live.

Here is more information from the Frederick Community Calendar:

Our event features the basics for a great day with the family! Food, fun and entertainment. Key 103 will be broadcasting live statrting at noon. Keyote will be on hand with free Keys tickets and prizes. Kid will receive free school supplies, while supplies last. The Fire Department will be giving out free smoke detectors. The Daryl Boffman Band will perform, as well as the band Harlindon. FMH will be conducting a community needs assesment and much more!!!!

A Programming Note

I will be moving Frederick Maryland Online from a hosted solution (wordpress.com) to a self-hosted blogging platform. Not much will change initially, but making the move will provide flexibility for future enhancements to the site.

Frederick Maryland Online will continue to live at frederickmarylandonline.com. I think the only people who may be effected are the ones who are subscribed/following along via wordpress.com. If you want to make sure you don’t miss anything, you should make sure you are subscribed using this feed (you can do email or RSS) since that won’t change when the move is done.

New Museum in Frederick

The Roads & Rails Museum is opening in Frederick.

Founded by David Burroughs, Roads & Rails Museum celebrates historic automobiles and railroads. The museum is currently under construction with an opening date of Thanksgiving 2010. Roads and Rails will showcase some beautiful historic automobiles from the 1950′s and 1960′s. It will also house one of the largest O scale model railroads in the country. Also, visit our large gift shop and hobby store. Roads and Rails Museum is a great family friendly museum that is fun for all ages.

Anyone know if they opened on Schedule?
