About Guy

its meI’m a thirty something father and husband. I have lived in Frederick, MD off and on since 1980. I started Frederick Maryland Online because I’m nosy (I get it from my Mom) and wanted to know what was going on in the place I live.

One thing I have learned is that as much information as I post I must get double back from the readers. I learn more from you all then any news source. You all make this site great. Thanks!

Check out my other blog.

  • Guy - great look. I was hoping you could update my blogroll link. From mdrdsr.negimaki.com to blog.raimist.com

    Thanks in advance.

  • It’s done. Thanks!

  • Hi Guy,

I am a teacher at Crestwood Middle School and I was wondering if you could get the word out about a fundraiser we are holding for the student incentives program. The Maryland Nighthawks, a streetball team from Rockville will be playing/ performing at Tuscarora High School on April 6th at 7 pm (doors will open at 6:30).

Many street ball players such as Randy “White Chocolate” Gill, David “The Animal” Bailey, Pat “da rock”, Frank “The Sniper” McQueen, “The Wizardâ€?, and other important surprise guests will wow the crowd during this street ball extravaganza.

Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door.

    Thank You!

  • You may want to consider removing the “eatinfrederick.com” link from your webpage…unlike your site, the info on that site is very stale and not worth your redirected traffic…kudos on your efforts to provide news and topicality about frederick..i enjoyed your site

  • I will take a look at the link. Thanks for reading!

  • Actually, I referred Guy to the website, and I found it to be worth it, just based on the breakdown in the left sidebar alone. The categories are very specific. Plus, I recommended it after reading in the Gazette that someone new had taken over the website and was keeping it more up to date.

  • Guy-
I played softball with you and Chasity, I believe. I live in Dearbought and I was on Roy’s team. I just came across your sight when I was looking for the garage sales site.
    Very nice site!
    Congrats on becoming a father.
    Kory

  • Yup, we played for the dearbought team. We had a great time, I wish we could have played more. That was the summer of weddings, with all our friends getting married it made it hard to make any Saturday games. Welcome to the site, I’m glad you found it.

  • Hey!! While at a local Frederick Spa, the girl who was giving me my treatment mentioned that Frederick is getting a Ruth’s Chris, back behind the Westview Promenade. What has anyone else heard about this???

  • Mmmmm … steaks cooked in butter. I didn’t find anything after a quick look on their site, but I will keep me eyes peeled for any news.

  • Steve, the main website for the county schools is fcps.org. You’ll be able to get certain info like school enrollment and locations. If you need something more specific than that, let me know.

    lizfrog,
thanks for the quick reply, I am interested in the quality - student to teacher ratios and how they compare in student graduation/advancement against similar programs
thanks again for the heads up; very much appreciated
    cheers, Steve

  • Guy,

I’m curious about the link the Frederick Rugby. I was one of the first to reply to Ed & Don’s add in the FNP and eventual kickoff meeting at the Raw Bar. I played fullback the first 6-8 seasons, before the team really took off.

    Did you play? F

  • No, I am way to wimpy to play rugby. I just thougth I would give a little support to the local Rugby team.

  • Hello. My name is Shayne Bowins President of SFS Magazine and Im also a frederick native. This is a wonderful site and I decided to bookmark it. Im currently working on building a magazine for the people of frederick and touch on topics that “Frederick Magazine” won’t. I enjoy the site and wonder if you do any freelance writing as we will be looking for writers in the future. The fact that you have a site like this just interests me and we will be looking for people with the motivation that you have. Thanks and you have a great site.

  • Shane,

You myspace is revealing and intriguing. When are you going to print?

Guy, I haven’t been to a game in a few years, so I guess I need to go to one this season. I’m glad you gave me the inspiration. Problem is that all of the Old Boys will try to get me to play another game, but I don’t have the knees for it.

  • Guy,

Do you know of a way to post surveys or polls? That might be a way to encourage participation.

Can you make it so, Webmaster?

  • Polls are fun. You can find a pretty easy (and free) Blog Poll at http://www.blogpoll.com/poll/

There is only one problem. WordPress.Com wont let you post any javascript which is what these polls are.

So we could use the tool in the link above to create and collect the results of a poll, but we would have to post on a site outside FredNet and link to it.

Let me know if you want to set one up.

  • how do you see where you have posted comments and what may have been responded to?

  • Just go to the particular post you have left a comment on. You can do this by clicking on the title or on the “comments” link under the title. You can also subscribe to the Comments in RSS.

If you are looking for a particular post let me know or do a search.

    Thanks!
    Guy

  • Also, Sandy, you can look under the “categories” for a particular post you may have commented on that may be archived off the front page.

  • Thats the thing….I cant remember where I questioned…(yes, I am a blonde). But since I have your attention. I was wondering if anyone knew what was going in the new shopping center behind Westview Promenade? I am hoping and praying for an Old Navy….Isn’t it about time we get one?

And by the way…I love this site. I have been in Frederick 4 yrs now and love to read about new things I have not found on my own. One of my favorite things to do is hop in the car and get lost around the area and find new (and old) things around this beautiful place.
    Sandy

  • I belive that will be a Planet Replay and a My Organic Market. I alos belive the Frederick Magazine reported that no Old Navy or Banana Republic are planned for Frederick.

  • No, not in Westview Promenade…there is a Westview Plaza going in on the backside…behind Champions.

  • D’oh! Sorry for the mistae. In that case I have no idea. I will let you know if I hear anything though.

  • We will begin printing in the middle of 07 as we are trying to conduct as many interviews and get as many sponsors and advertisers as we can. Right now, we are working with a few local bands and hiphop artist who are currently on the come up. Thanks for being interested.

  • I love this new picture, Guy! The color in it is amazing! Haha, it almost looks fake it’s so pretty.

  • Thanks! Even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in awhile.

  • Thank you for the great web site - a true resource, and one many people clearly enjoy

  • The Most Valuable Network, http://www.MVN.com , is looking to expand it’s minor league baseball coverage. If you know of any bloggers in the Frederick area that are big Keys fans who might be interested in joining our baseball blog network, could you let me know? Or perhaps make an announcement on FredNet about our search for a local blogger?

Once we get a Frederick Keys site up and running, a link exchange to FredNet could easily be arranged. MVN gets thousands of page hits per day that could be directed to FredNet (Through a Keys page, which would filter folks down to those who actually care about the Frederick area)

  • Guy ,
I was looking at the comments on the FNP today, about the B&N opening up. It seems that there are rumors of a Cheesecake factory opeing up and a PF Chengs (sp).
Do you know anything about this ?
My wife, a southern belle, says what we really need is a Sonic. Always nice to start and/or contribute to the rumor mill about Frederick.

    -Karl

  • I have definitely heard the Cheesecake Factory rumor before. It was even mentioned in the Frederick magazine. The PF Changs one is new though. Is the Barnes and Noble open yet?

  • It’s supposed to open April 4th.

I could have sworn that I read in Frederick Magazine that the PF Chang’s rumor was just that, a rumor. I’ll have to dig through my pile to see if I can find it.

  • Hi,
We’d love to have your e-mail contact info. Please drop me a line: chrysanthe@outside.in.

  • Lol, The Short Fat Kid is a bizarre name to go by…

    Where did that come from?

  • The name was inspired by a intramural basketball team I played on in college called The Short Fat Kids. The team was composed of the shortest and/or fattest guys in our fraternity. We lost every game, but always had a large crowd of people that came to watch us as we attempted Harlem Globe Trotter’esque stunts. It was probably the best and longest running joke I was ever involved in.

  • I live in Finksburg and work in Frederick. I enjoyed your blog. Have you considered using Adsense?

    http://tylercorlen.com/google-adsense/

  • Hey Tyler thanks for stopping by. WordPress.com (what I use to run this site) does not allow adsense code. Thanks!

  • Hi Guy,

This is great! My boyfriend and I are moving to Frederick in a little over a month and we need help knowing where a safe affordable apartment complex is!! Do you know anything about Brookside? I found it to be very responsably priced, but I will not compromise my safety for price! Please give me your advice and if you have any suggestions on safe places I would love to hear them!!
    Thanks a lot!

  • Hi Guy-

I just stumbled across the blog you wrote back in November about my blog, FrederickFoodie.blogspot.com. A big ‘ole thank you for that one! I’d love to link to your site but don’t quite know the protocol or, let’s be honest here, the technical details. Anyway you can guide me through? Many thanks!

  • I can’t remember how it works in Blogger, but basically you just add Frederick Maryland Online to your sidebar. Thanks for stopping by and adding the link!

  • Guy - below is some information that I was wondering if you would mention on your site if appropriate? As you see, I am participating in a 100 mile bike ride (in fact I am the team captain) for MS. Let me know your thoughts. If you could just mention the MS: Tour de Shore with a link to the information and fundraising website that is given below that would be great!!

    Thanks so much,

    David

    ****
I wanted to let you know that myself and some of my colleagues, about 10 of them, have formed a bike team, Team CardioSmart, in support of the MS: Wells Fargo Tour de Shore on June 7th and/or 8th. Riding a bike - a skill that many of us learned ages ago - can seem like such a simple thing, but it can have such a profound effect, especially when you ride for those who may not have the strength to pedal themselves. I, and the majority of the team, will be riding 100 miles on Saturday in support of MS.

By donating to MS via Team CardioSmart, you will participate in a celebration of the great things we can achieve when working hard for a common cause. Each mile we pedal brings us that much closer to a cure - and closer to a world without multiple sclerosis.

So what are you waiting for? Every hour of every day, someone is diagnosed with MS. I personally have been touched by MS as my brother-in-law has been diagnosed. That’s why I registered for the bike MS: Wells Fargo Tour de Shore, and why I’m asking you to support my fund raising efforts with a tax-deductible donation. Make a donation on my or the Team’s behalf.

The National Multiple Sclerosis Society is dedicated to ending the devastating effects of MS but they can’t do it without our help. It’s faster and easier than ever to support this cause. Simply click on the link at the bottom of this message.

Any amount, great or small, helps to make a difference in the lives of people with MS. I appreciate your support and look forward to letting you know how our Team does.

    Regards & Happy Cycling,

    David Raimist

  • @ David, the comment is up on the site. I would also post it to the forum. Good luck!
