Hotel Recomendations

Geraldine from Bikes and Biscuits asks:
I am planning a visit to Frederick and looking for a place to stay that is not covered in doilies or a standard chain motel/hotel. Any suggestions?
Having never stayed in a hotel in Frederick I’m not much help with this question. I was hoping you all could lend a hand?

Even though we live locally we sometimes take a “vacation” at a local hotel.
Try:

or a little further away (but excellent food):

We’ve stayed at at the Marriott Residence Inn (free hot breakfast), Marriott Courtyard ($$ for breakfast), Extended Stay suites (really really really bad), Holiday Inn Express by FSK, and Comfort Inn. When on business trips to Frederick before we moved there my husband stayed at the Hampton Inn (hated it – too noisy and too many partiers from Past Times hanging out), Days Inn on Buckeystown (hated it – too noisy), and Fairfield Inn.
There’s a B&B on 3rd St. in Downtown.

Also on on Buckystown Pike that looks nice but would put you down near the chain restaurants and not let you experience the local flavor of our town.
Hill House is DEFINITELY the way to go! It is beautiful, clean and the food is delicious! Definitely check it out online at: http://www.hillhousefrederick.com/ i attended a baby shower there for a friend a few years ago and was blown away by how very nice it was. Definitely top o’ the line! Damian was gracious enough to give some of us who had never been there a tour. The rooms were absolutely wonderful. i have to say, the one room that sticks out foremost in my mind, though, was the black and white bathroom! It is a designer’s delight! Damian had prepared all of the food that day, and it was gourmet quality. Staying at Hill House also puts you right downtown with all the wonderful shops and restaurants. Volt, Acacia and The Tasting Room are my three faves — in that order. Volt provides an upscale experience at prices no more than the other restaurants on my list. It is definitely a dining “experience” that will leave you satisfied in every way. From the moment you hit the front entrance, you are catered to with excellence! And if you find you haven’t time for dinner but are craving a cheeseburger, Volt is THE place to go! There cheeseburger is about $12 and worth every single cent! You can eat it in the dining room for lunch or at the bar (which is a fun experience in itself!) anytime. You will be so happy you included Volt in your activities! The owner and chef, Brian Voltaggio, was a recent contestant on Top Chef. The Tasting Room is fun for drinks at the bar. A very nice place to meet and chat with interesting people. My fave drink is the Black Martini, but you can’t go wrong no matter how your taste runs. Be sure to read the chalkboard for the evening’s drink specials. Acacia not only has delicious food but delicious food that is beautifully presented! Their dining rooms provide the best in a quiet little dinner. Want to go shopping in Frederick? Venus on a Half Shell is a wonderful little vintage shop filled with the most wonderful treasures just waiting to follow you home! McGuire’s, Flights of Fancy, The Muse and Fabulous Finds are all not to be missed! Enjoy your time in Frederick!
i do know the difference between “there” and “their” and can’t stand that i did not re-read my comment before posting!
I second the Residence Inn although completely ignoring your anti-chain request. We’ve never stayed at a B&B in Frederick but I’d venture to say they are all lathered with doilies. But who knows, maybe you’d get lucky;) Frederick does not have the best accommodation choices. Good luck, enjoy your stay!
