September 2009 Events in Frederick County

2009 August 25
by Liz

If you have kids who started school yesterday, you know that means summer is officially over.  There are still lots of fun things to do in September however.  Here is a more complete listing from the Frederick tourism website and as always, feel free to add any other events you’ve heard about in the comments.

First Saturday is on Saturday, September 5.  This month’s theme is Around the World in 15 Blocks.

Go around the world in Downtown Frederick!  Explore the earth without leaving downtown with international music, crafts and demonstrations from different countries including Ireland, France, China, Germany, Japan and more!  First Saturday “tourists” can get their “passports” stamped at participating locations.  Visitors who complete their passport before 8pm can stop by the Visitor Center, 19 E. Church Street, to enter for a chance to win a Downtown Frederick Gift Card.  Enjoy guest artists, exhibit openings and special activities at downtown’s many specialty stores and restaurants from 5 – 9pm.

The Frederick Keys last home stand of the season is September 1-3 vs. the Kinston Indians.

September 10th is the last chance to get to an Alive @ Five this year.  The final happy hour event will feature The Wise Guys,  a 60′s and 70′s rock band.

Don’t forget about the sidewalk sale downtown on September 12th.  (I almost did!)

Gonzofest is September 12th as well.

Every Friday in September at lunch time, from 11:30AM-1:30PM, enjoy live music on the terrace of the C. Burr Artz Public Library.

Enjoy local wine at  Elk Run Vineyards for Wine Down Fridays, Fridays 6-9PM through October.

There are several events at the Cultural Arts Center in September including Fashion Week, 9/17-9/19:

Frederick Fashion Week is back for the third year!  Organized by the Frederick Arts Council, this event celebrates fashion as art.  This event includes fashion shows featuring local clothing boutiques, salons, and accessory stores, and includes many other special events.  You will not want to miss this party!  Stay tuned for updates on this signature event hosted by the Frederick Arts Council. For more information, call the Frederick Arts Council at 301-662-4190 or email info@frederickartscouncil.org

and the Frederick Artist Market on 9/27:

The Frederick Artist Market is an indoor arts and crafts market that features the work of up to 25 local artists, including jewelry, pottery, art, photography, and other hand-crafted items.  The event, which is free to attend and open to the public, runs from 1:00-5:00 p.m..  The Frederick Artist Market happens six times per year.  For more information, including how to participate, contact the Frederick Arts Council at 301-662-4190 or via email jdobbins@frederickartscouncil.org.

The Great Frederick Fair is September 18th-26th.  Check this previous post for information on the entertainment line-up.

Two fall festivals start on September 19th.  One at Summers Farm and the other at Gaver Pumpkin Patch.

Didn’t you also post about a sidewalk sale on Sept 12?

Just a little FYI on the Wise Guys, they were a popular Frederick band back in the early to mid 80′s. They get together several times a year, generally at the Brew Pub upstairs. Not sure who all will be there this time but my BIL Andy Carignan (guitar/vocals….who still plays regularly around the area) and Bill Curtis (bass vocals) are the nucleus. They play great music and are a lot of fun, perfect for Alive @ 5.

Thanks for that Denman. I couldn’t find a website for The Wise Guys so I appreciate the FYI.

I just saw over on FredRocks that The Reagan Years are playing a free concert at the Westview Promenade on Friday, 9/18 from 6-9PM.
