NFL fans?
My Facebook account has been lit up all week in anticipation of the preseason for the NFL. Personally, I hate preseason. I hate to see a premier player go down with a season (or career) ending injury in the preseason. So usually I don’t watch. But I have to admit that I got sucked into the excitement by my FB friends and it made me a bit curious about the fans in Frederick. Most people I know that are from here are Redskins fans. I’ve met a few that are still diehard Colts fans and still support the Colts and some who switched allegiance to the Ravens when Baltimore got their new team. Then there are the tried and true Ravens fans. Me? I hate the Ravens because I am a Cleveland Browns fan. I always thought it odd that a city who had a team leave in the dark of night would take a team from another city. Thankfully the Browns got to keep all their history (unlike the Colts) and I’m almost over the whole episode. Almost.
So, I’m asking you NFL fans out there. Are you a Redskins fan? Prefer the Ravens? Or are you like me, a transplanted Fredericktonian who still loves the team from their original hometown?

There are a few COWBOY fans here in the Frederick area! Go Cowboys!
I like both the Redskins and the Ravens. I like the Redskins because I was born and raised in Arlington, so they’re the home team. Then I moved up here to Maryland and the Ravens came. I like the Ravens because 1) I like Poe, 2) I like the colors of their uniforms, and 3) they’re our other local team.
I was saddened about last night’s score – it should have been more balanced. (I do *not* like the Cowboys! Boo, hiss!)
Redskins all the way! I am surprised by the large number of Steelers fans in the area.
Guy, I’ve always looked to Balto. more than DC as a “real” town and one that’s more my style…so I guess that’s why the Ravens are my team. Long ago, I had to make peace with the fact the Colts are gone (sure wish we could have at least kept the name). But I’m with you on being surprised at the number of Steelers fans around here!!
I’m a “Cheesehead”!!! I am not from GB, just always liked the team and the fact that the town/residents own them.
(I agree, there is one team to hate- The Cowboys! I’m still trying to figure out who decided they were America’s team?)
Me, too—I mean, about who the heck decided the Cowboys were America’s team!
Well, I was born in Frederick, but grew up in California, so it was the 49ers growing up for me. They’re still my NFC team, while I’ve been to some Ravens games so they’re now my AFC favorite. Don’t like the Steelers or Cowboys! I can understand why people are upset at the score last night, but the Ravens are arguably the 2nd best team in the NFL.
I’m sorry to hear about all you people who hate the Cowboys. It is such a shame that true sportsmanship is dead. I believe that EVERY team (yes, even the Redskins) deserves to have its fans, and those fans should be respected.
My hometown (Princeton, NJ) did not have an NFL team, but I have been a football fan since before I gave up my blankie. I have always loved good football (played by any team), and the Cowboys have always been my team.
My current town of residence (Westminster, Maryland) is home to the summer camp of the Ravens, and I always attend their camp … by August I am in great need of a football fix! I totally agree with LizFrog about preseason…NOT my favorite thing!
I’m a Cleveland Browns fan, so no Ravens here. No Redskins either, long story! I guess I am just more of a college football fan. Gig ‘em Aggies!
Yea for another Browns fan!!
I’m a Steelers fan (here we go Steelers!).
There’s a lot of Steeler fans everywhere – a big part of that is the fact that Pittsburgh has been shedding jobs for years, and Maryland is a place that is close that has been somewhere we can move for jobs. Also, you have a lot of people who jumped on in the 70s and have remained fans. Plus, Hagerstown apparantly aired only Steeler games for years, which has had an affect on the locals there. I know more Skins fans here (actually, I know more here than I knew when I lived in Montgomery County, strangely enough), but the Steelers are very important here.
(Let me add, too, that Frederick is a lot like Western PA – a lot more like it than Montgomery County, which a lot of us transplants appreciate.)
