Do we need 2 Lowes and 2 Home Depots?

No, nor do we need two Wal-Marts or the inevitable second Target we will probably get in the next 5-10 years.

As a matter of opinion, yes we do need two. One on 355 for the southern and western parts of the county, and one on 26 for the northern and eastern parts of the county. Plus, I hate it when I have to stand in line at a store! ;)

Here’s more info from the developer…

I can’t wait for Weggies! I grew up in Buffalo, so it was our grocery store. My husband and I just moved here from Alexandria. We made our by-weekly trip 17 miles down to Woodbridge for the great deals, service, and overall awesomeness of it all. :-)

    2011? So… we’ll see the beginnings of construction by Fall 2013? ;-)

I’ve noticed that whenever a builder gives a date for completion, you should usually add about 18 months.

@Becky and KP, I agree, 2011 probably has no basis in reality.

Yeah, the sign on 355 across from the Panera plaza still says Fall 2009 so I wouldn’t hold my breath for a Wegmans in 2011.

We have been hearing that the pc on 355 across from Panera was going to be a shopping center for the 4+ years that I have been in town. Also the cinder block company was supposed to lose their lease for the last couple of years also. But they seem to still be going strong. Beleive that both pcs of property were/are owned by the Kleins.

The thought of a (second) Lowes (one is enough) and Marshalls (IMHO one is too many) leave me distinctly underwhelmed. The Wegmans is a happy but passing thought, a flickering mirage in a distant future. Who knows where I’ll be or what I’ll be doing by then.

I do want a Target on the north side of town. I hate battling the traffic to get to the other one.

Um, doesn’t Frederick already have TWO Home Depots? One on Rt 40 and one on 355?? Those seem like unlikely store pairings for Wegman’s.

My mistake, I thought the sign said Home Depot and Lowe’s which really makes no sense. Please forgive me! LOL!

A little more on this plaza in today’s Gazette:

Yes, Frederick does need more shopping, especially on the north and east sides. It’s ludicrous to have to drive all the way to the one Target for instance. We’ve lived in so many towns in the US, many smaller than Frederick, and there was always the crowd that did not want another store, another restaurant, etc , saying “we don’t need it” and yet the minute that new store or restaurant opened up it was packed with business and stayed that way.

Found out Mimi’s Cafe is opening Nov 5th – emailed their HQ to find out. Yet another excellent addition to the area.
