A few downtown tips
I got a tip tonight that it looks like a new tenant is moving in to the location vacated by the British Imports store when they moved down Market Street a few months ago. If anyone notices a sign or knows anything about who is moving in there, leave a comment.
Also, in case you missed Annie’s comment about a couple other new additions, here it is:
Also new downtown, check out Zoe’s Chocolates on Market Street, Handcrafted Chocolates made the old fashioned way…and free sample to any new customer! Next door to the Rock Shop, Earthly Elements.
And has anyone else been to the My Town Grocer and Gelato already? It’s a couple doors down from the Mirage Cafe, and owned by the same person. Gelato, Real Gelato here. Yummy, smooth, creamy and fat free! (at least the fruit flavors) You can also get Middle Eastern grocery items there if that is your thing.
Finally, many thanks to Rachel for checking out the opening of The Cellar Door Cafe and Bistro and reporting back her dining experience:
…the food was exceptional. My mom and I shared the ” Tomato & Mozzarella appetizer, which was simply just slices of fresh tomato and fresh mozzarella soaked in a light vinagarette. Then, for dinner, I ordered the Baked Alaskan Samon which was covered in saffron basil couscous, and served with green beans made with garlic , white zin and pepper and mashed potatoes, DELISH! My mom ordered Manhattan Zuchinni-Squash Pancakes! The pancakes were mouthwatering, great for vegetarians, and also served with green beans and mash. The chef there was very nice, he came out and asked us how the meal was, the service was great and I have to agree with Bill R. that Cellar Door has a ”date night ” atmosphere, with the insturmentals of classic Sinatra and Sarah Vaughn songs playing in the background. Two thumbs up for Cellar Door!!

The gelato place is great.
I tried both Zoe’s Chocolate’s and the Gelato place yesterday and both were wonderful! The toffee at Zoe’s chocolate was to die for!
I went to the gelato place this afternoon and was totally impressed. Excellent gelato! I believe it’s sourced from Dolcefine, a company based in Baltimore.
They even had my favorite flavor – Stracciatella.
Go get some! I’d love to see this place stick around. And keep in mind, gelato is a lower in fat and calories than traditional ice cream and some how manages to taste even better.
Hey, Amber. The My Town Grocery and Gelato place has a Tiramisu flavored gelato too! Yowza! Tastes like the real thing, no kidding.
And yes, Friday night my husband and I had our first Cellar Door Biistro dining experience…What a perfect date night destination! First of all, ATMOSPHERE! Love it here… the lighting, the intimate seating arrangements, throw pillows, cool jazzy music, and very nice service. The kind that makes the evening special, (our waiter was Niko) and he was attentive and yet discreet in attending to our needs and wants all through our visit. The Chardonnay I had was very nice, (I can’t tell you the name, but it was by the glass) and my husband just had a beer in a pilsner glass. For appetizers, we had the amazing crab dip, served
hot with toasted little seasoned bread slices, and it had a really flavorfull creamy consistency with abundant lumps of sweet crab. Also the cream of crab soup, a not too thick and heavy recipe with the taste of more than just crab and cream, it was totally delicious! Entrees were the crab cakes for me, (big ones, and all meat with little sauce with rich taste that was very similar to the crab soup.) My husband had the Chesapeake Bay Bird for dinner, a chicken breast stuffed with crab and topped with cheese. He said it was wonderful and he was glad to have tried something new, as he usually goes for the red meat. It was a large breast and loaded with crab imperial. Steamed veggies (green and yellow squash & carrots) in white wine, garlic and butter (light on the butter) and the half-mashed, red-skinned potatoes were the starch of the day. All fresh and tasty. Dessert: Creme Brulee! and Vanilla and Chocolate Mousse served in a beautiful, edible tulip shaped chocolate cup! Whew, that’s it. Go try the Cellar Door and see for yourself. It is really a good time.
I also checked out the Gelato Place yesterday. Good stuff!!!
Had Tiramisu and Pistachio, both excellent, Hubby tried Raspberry. Very refreshing.
I also noticed a new restaurant next to Starbucks.
I guess I should read the entire post first
The new restaurant seems to be the Cellar Door.
My spies tell me that it looks like it could be an antique furniture store moving in to the old British Imports location. That’s kind of a letdown…I was hoping for a bar with pizza by the slice and other good bar foods.
a new cafe is always good to have
we have been to the gelato place 3 times starting late sept. and now it is late oct. all 3 times the lights were on music was playing sandwich board on street saying yes were open go to open the door and its locked . we drive 60 miles to get their to find out we drove to be disappointed, but in turn we went to the pretzel place and they were happy to take our business. the last time i went was this past monday and swore i would never try again, but now that i know the same person owns the cafe i will go there and have them open for me.
There are alot of places in downtown Frederick that are closed on Mondays. It may have been an error on their part, or just someone gone out of the store at that time. We have learned never to plan dinner in town on Mondays as that seems to be the day that the restaurant owners choose to let their employees enjoy a day off after the busy weekend.
