Getting Social

2009 June 5
by Guy

I attended The Frederick County Chamber of Commerce’s Social Media Conference on behalf of Orases (where I work) today. Not only was it great to meet a bunch of the online peeps; I got a chance to see a great presentation by Jim (aka Frog of Lizfrog). Jim and I even made the news.

A big thanks to the Chamber and Jessica Hibbard for putting this conference on. If you have any interest in Social Media the presentations from today are posted here.

I really wish I could have gone.

I’m so glad Jim & Guy were featured in the NBC 25 segment! Thanks so much for participating and presenting. My head is still spinning from this great event …

Damn… I wish I was on the Chamber of Commerce mailing list. I’d have jumped at the chance to go.

Wonder if you gotta pony up the bucks to be a C of C member (probably)

I just tried making a fan page for my company in facebook
… and discovered that there are more than a few choices.

A Facebook “Fan” page offers a company wishing to list itself in Facebook certain options, a “Business Facebook Page” offers others… still trying to discern the pros and cons of one versus the other.

I made a Facebook page for one of my local SEO clients: Gilbert’s Restaurant Equipment but it’s apparently not searchable in Google.

So I’m playing with one for my company (Frederick Web Promotions) to see which is better for local Frederick small businesses

the idea is if a Facebook Company Page shows up as a listing in Google (in addition to Google’s listing of the company website) then that company occupies TWO listings out of ten (area denial for it’s competitors)

      Hi googleguru,

Chamber members and non-members were eligible to attend the conference, though non-members had to pay a higher registration fee. Our email updates are available exclusively to members, but anyone can follow us on Twitter for updates: http://twitter.com/fredcochamber.

This particular event also received advance coverage in the Gazette, FNP, WFMD, and other local media outlets. Sorry you missed it! Hope you can join us next time.

I watched a lot of it vicariously on Twitter through some of my Twitter friends. I’m definitely going to the next one. Kudos Jessica!

I, too went to the #fredsmc (for our twitter buddies) and absolutely LOVED it! All the presenters handed out gold in the form of information! I recommend it to anyone they attend the next one (which I’m sure there will be).

It was a blast. Jess did an outstanding job putting this together. No need for a Podcamp Frederick with events like this… And I finally met Jim and Guy in person.
