No, not those Cowboys.  I mean real working cowboys.  This weekend at Loch Moy Farm, 1235 Park Mills Road in Adamstown, cowboys and their horses will be competing in an Extreme Cowboy Race.  From the Gazette:

A popular event with thousands of members across the nation, this is the first opportunity for Marylanders to witness the event made popular on RFD-TV in their home state.

The event consists of a race comprised of various cowboy-related challenges, from water crossing and side passing to log pulling and navigating a hay maze.

“As a working cowboy you run into situations where you may need to cross a creek or a river, and there are a lot of horse maneuvers that are handy: backing a horse in a controlled manner, using a lariat rope to drag or pull a log on horseback, those kind of challenges that a working cowboy faces will be put to the test on the course,” Extreme Cowboy Association national board member David Beard said.

Though it is called a race, competitors in the Extreme Cowboy Race competition are judged first and foremost on their cadence, control and safety, while timing is a smaller part of the consideration.

Competitors will be coming in from other states to show off their horsemanship skills, in hopes of gaining points toward entry in the regional showdown.

Anyone who wants to go is asked to pay a $10 parking fee and the event starts at 10AM on both Saturday and Sunday, June 6th and 7th.
