Cameron’s Seafood Coming Soon
There is a sign where the old Deli Plus was in the Evergreen Square Shopping Center saying: Coming Soon Cameron’s Seafood. I have no idea if this restaurant is related to the string of Cameron’s Seafood places located in Maryland, but I would assume so. If anyone has any insights please feel to share them in the comments.







It’s not clear from the couple of the links I clicked on from the site you linked to Guy, whether it’s a restaurant or a fish market? I hope it’s a bit of both! Plus, that space has been empty long enough. Did you happen to notice if El Ranchero was open yet (formerly El Paso and before that, Sunflowers)?
I did not, but I will try and do a drive-by soon!
Cameron’s Seafood is primarily a to-go place if it is, indeed, like the other Cameron’s in the area. They used to have a website, cameronsseafood.com, but I see that it has been suspended. From what I’ve heard and from the locations I’ve driven by, they advertise crabs year round. Other items that used to be on the menu include fish/seafood platters, seafood gumbo, fish sandwiches and the like.
FYI that El Ranchero is owned by the same people who owned and operated Los Potrillos. While I am eager to see them back in business and serving the same great food again, it boggles my mind how they were able to swing this. My understanding is that they went five months without paying rent for their location on Route 40, and owed approximately $55,000 in back-rent. How any commercial land owner allows them to open up a new location on their property given their very recent credit history is beyond me. Businesses should have credit report accountability the same way personal consumers do imo.
wow , interesting. has this location opened yet? maybe different landlord, different standards? doesn’t make sense to me either. perhaps they got the new lease before the rt 40 situation made it to the courts? and I agree about your biz credit comment, if that really happened a lot of our current economic mess would have been avoided….
I am a tenant at this shopping center. I hope that these places open soon and that they stay open!
FYI Folks, we drove by El Ranchero last night and it is not yet open. They do have the signs up though, and the “Coming Soon” banner is proudly displayed.

Hey- I see the Cellar Door Bistro that is opening on Market Street next door to Starbucks has the sign& awning up out front and is having a “soft opening” as we speak. They’re serving to guests this week by invitation to get their groove down and then will be open to the public in a week or two.(According to owner, Richard Belles)
It’s more than just another restaurant in downtown, he says. More of a place to relax and spend the evening and a uniquely comfy atmosphere. Sounds interesting.
What Frederick could really use is a nice place to enjoy some good music. (for the over 30 crowd)
Maybe this will be it? One can hope.
Went to Cellar Door Bistro last night. Shared a bottle of wine and a few cheese appetizers with my other half. The atmosphere was nice, the appetizers great and the wine selection is good as well. Katie at the door told us that is was their second day open and that it was their soft grand opening, with their official grand opening coming this week. Their menu had a good selection of entrees, though we were just stopping by for appys. Steak, some seafood, chicken, a couple types of salads……I think its a great place to relax and unwind, have a glass of wine, something to eat. I had never been in this location when it was the Brown Pelican, so it was my first visit. I love the old brick and the feeling of being hidden away from the hustle and bustle of Market Street during First Saturday. My other half and I are interested to go back and enjoy a dinner there at some time in the future.

Los Potrillos is not the same as EL Ranchero. They are brothers, The El Ranchero is very successful as he has one in Hagerstown and Martinsburg. It is not the same by any means. All for your info.
Cellar Door is definately “Date Night” atmosphere. Mood lighting, soft music in background. Nice selection’s on the menu as “Pojama” stated above. My other half and parents stopped in over the weekend for drinks to check it out. They have a nice wine menu and about 12 bottled beers to offer. (Keep in mind, there is no bar at the Cellar Door Bistro Lounge)
We will have to go back for dinner some evening because we did see some selections that caught our eye.
I’m taking my Mother to Cellar Door tonight, I’ll be sure to post some Menu items, so that everyone can grab a ”what to eat / what to drink ” idea for when they wine and dine.

So come to find out, which is not suprising, that Dave Belles (who also owns Belles on E.Patrick) owns the Cellar Door Bistro, who I worked closely with at Jackson’s (when it was open), while waitressing there before it closed down. Anwyway, the food was exceptional. My mom and I shared the ” Tomato & Mozzarella appetizer, which was simply just slices of fresh tomato and fresh mozzarella soaked in a light vinagarette. Then, for dinner, I ordered the Baked Alaskan Samon which was covered in saffron basil couscous, and served with green beans made with garlic , white zin and pepper and mashed potatoes, DELISH! My mom ordered Manhattan Zuchinni-Squash Pancakes! The pancakes were mouthwatering, great for vegetarians, and also served with green beans and mash. The chef there was very nice, he came out and asked us how the meal was, the service was great and I have to agree with Bill R. that Cellar Door has a ”date night ” atmosphere, with the insturmentals of classic Sinatra and Sarah Vaughn songs playing in the background. Two thumbs up for Cellar Door!!
Rachel, Thanks for the feedback on Cellar Door! I am really looking forward to keeping my reservation there for dinner Friday night with my husband. I stopped in to get a BLT sandwich (my favorite as well as my usual order) at the Bodega yesterday and peeked in to see the Cellar Door dining room. What a cool cool “feel” this place has got!
That is when I saw the complete dinner menu (crab cakes are at the top of the page) and made my reservation for Friday. Richard Belles (owner) was very personable and said that he is working on putting “coupons/gift cards” on a website called Restaurants.com to give people a chance to try out the place at a huge savings.
I also saw this other fun new place downtown yesterday…the My Town Grocery and Gelato also on Market Street.
The grocery part is mainly Middle-Eastern food,which is all “Greek” to me.(pun intended)
The Gelato is very very nice! How can it be so smooth and delicious and be fat free? The pina colada flavor is amazing! There were about a dozen flavors there. Fawaz, the store owner, also owns the Mirage (which he says he may be seeling in the near future.) No more Hooka bar:(
And one more thing… Check out Zoe’s Chocolates just opened this week. The handcrafted chocolates the way no one else makes them anymore, and a cute, newly designed store right next door to the Rock Shop-Earthly Elements. They give everyone who comes in a free sample!
The Manhattan Zucchini-Squash pancakes on the menu caught my eye as something a bit out of the ordinary–can’t wait to try them!

I am soo happy to have something new and different come to downtown! Friday night my husband and I have reservations for dinner there too! It is high time for a “date night”! Married people have to remind themselves that they are a couple, I think. Life gets so busy and we need a time out. As for the Bodega and Cellar Door…
really nice people there, I agree. What is the chef’s name? Does anyone know where he came from? The owner, (Belles) Richard said that the Restaurants.com website will soon have coupons to the new Cellar Door Bistro so more folks can try it out at a great savings.
Also new downtown, check out Zoe’s Chocolates on Market Street, Handcrafted Chocolates made the old fashioned way…and free sample to any new customer! Next door to the Rock Shop, Earthly Elements.
And has anyone else been to the My Town Grocer and Gelato already? It’s a couple doors down from the Mirage Cafe, and owned by the same person. Gelato, Real Gelato here. Yummy, smooth, creamy and fat free! (at least the fruit flavors) You can also get Middle Eastern grocery items there if that is your thing. So much new stuff to check out in our lovely little village of Frederick! Does this mean the economy has started to turn around? I choose to be optimistic, and wish us all well.
Just spoke to Cameron’s Rockville – they are opening in Frederick but could not confirm a date. He did not know when it would be finished.

Does anyone know anything about a cheesecake factory opening in Frederick? I also heard a rumor about a coyote ugly-type bar opening in Frederick…anyone know about that?
Em, the Cheesecake Factory rumor has been around for years. So far it’s unsubstantiated. I haven’t heard anything about a Coyote Ugly-type bar, although I do hear rumors about a Hooters pretty frequently as well.
Tony and I dined at the Cellar Door bistro last night. There were some positives and negatives. We did talk to the owner, who appreciated our comments.
1. Very dark room – too dark to read the menu. We understood the romantic atmosphere, but it shouldn’t be too dark that we can’t read the menu. We suggested that they add a light above the table where we sat. Or a candle at the table. I joked about having a larger font for the menu and he actually thought it was a good idea.
2. Prices were high for some of the dishes. However, I believe they priced them to compete with the other Frederick restaurants. My crab cakes (delicious, hardly any filler, but slightly burnt on the bottom) were $30. Other restaurants sell them for $25. We ordered the Jumbo Shrimp wrapped with Prosciutto, served with a Chipotle Melon Cooley. It was $16.50. This appetizer had just four shrimp – they were large, not jumbo. Way too expensive. And if the prosciutto was the reason, they shouldn’t grill it to the point of being overdone. Fortunately, we had a 1/2 off coupon. In fact, I left the coupon at home by mistake and when I told that to our waiter, he checked with the owner, who said we would still get the appetizer at half price. That’s great service right there!
3. Tony suggested they add NY strip to the menu for a second meat dish. The owner stated they have been considering it and may add to the menu.
4. Music too loud at one point. It’s supposed to be background music, not a concert. Waiter turned it down without hesitation. Again, great service.
Our food was delicious. Tony had the pork loin. Both dishes were served with seasoned mashed potatoes and a broccoli/red pepper veggie.
Overall, this was a nice place for dinner and would recommend for a special occasion. I just hope the improve on the lighting.

Were you there at the same time we were, enjoying the “entertaining” conversation at the other tables?
I will add my 2 cents about the Cellar Door, as it was our first time there as well.
1. About the lighting in the room, I actually think it should have been darker in general, but brighter at the tables. In other words, lower the general lighting ambience in the room, but have small overhead spots or brighter candles on each table. That would lend a nice, romantic feel to the room, which seems to be the way they are going – what with the dainty pillows on the booths, etc.
2. Prices – you are right. They are probably 10-20% too high for the level of luxury in the room. Either lower the prices, or spruce up the decor. Wine and beer prices were good, though. I forgot my coupon at home too, and I didn’t think to bother the waiter or the owner about it. Besides, we only shared the mozzarella and tomato appetizer (quite good1) at only $7, I believe. We both went vegetarian (for no good reason). I had the Fried Green Tomatoes and Eggplant, while my wife had the Zucchini Pancakes. Both were EXCELLENT, and priced reasonably at around $15-17 (in that neighborhood, anyway). Entrees include a nice portion of vegetable AND starch, and we didn’t leave a morsel on our plates. Key Lime Cheescake for dessert was good, but not “Knock your socks off” good.
3. I will second the addition of NY Strip (or a ribeye). I think a nice flatiron steak (like Nathan’s in Georgetown used to serve, or like Mon Ami Gabi serves) would be a reasonably priced addition as well.
4. I dodn’t mind the music volume, of course, my attention was split between my lovely wife and trying to ignore the loud conversation at the tables next to us (though it was mildly entertaining).
General impressions: Improve the luxe feel to justify the prices. Improve the lighting as suggested, spruce up the stairway from the street down to the restaurant. The hostess on the sidewalk was a welcome and friendly touch. Waiter service was above expectations.
Also, a suggestion for the Cellar Door or any other venue in Frederick. Take a trip down to the Flaming Pit on 355 between Gaithersburg and Germantown. They have a rousing piano bar that would be a fantastic entertainment opportunity in Frederick. I could easily see the Cellar Door putting a piano in the bar area, and from 10pm-Midnite having a singalong piano player.
I heartily recommend the Cellar Door.

The Piano Bar idea is one I have to chime in on! How long have I and so many others been wishing that we would see one come to downtown? It is amazing that we have none in such a place as Frederick. Waht do you say, Cellar Door? Maybe it’s your destiny to fulfill this dream and put a great finishing touch on your new restaurant! If you build it, we will come.
Haven’t seen any Piano Bars closer than the Flaming Pit in Gaithersburg, but did stumble onto an amazing free piano concert series right in Downtown if you love incredible piano music:

We’re moving back to Frederick after the first of the year after an absence of more than 3 years (not from there originally – lived there the first time from 2000 – 2006) and we’re thrilled with the changes we’ve seen so far. We’ll be trying out Cellar Door as well as Volt (yeah, we know it’s very pricey but there are occasions that are worth it), Cameron’s and whatever else comes along. We’re really happy to see a Mimi’s Cafe opening at Westview! Eaten there in Arizona, California, and Colorado. There’s one near Dulles VA, too, but we haven’t been there – yet. Always outstanding food.
Hi……does anyone know if Cameron’s Seafood on Buckeystown Pike is open for business yet?? I hear their crabs are very reasonably priced for promotional purposes right now but I am from western MD and would drive down there if this is the case. Please advise. Anyone??
Last time I went there, the “coming soon” sign was still up. That was probably a week or two ago.

Was driving by Friday night when they were putting up the NOW OPEN sign on the rear of the building. I tried their crab cakes from the trailer and they were awsome!
