Summer Nite Cinema and the Summer Concert Series, 2009

May 19, 2009

Celebrate Frederick now has information on their website about two popular summer events in downtown Frederick, Summer Nite Cinema (really, how hard is it to just spell out the word “night”? Just a personal pet peeve)  and the Summer Concert Series.  The first movie is on June 6th and is for age 21 and over.  They will be showing Ferris Bueller’s Day Off on the West Patrick St. parking deck with a happy hour and live music starting at 6:00.  The movie starts at dusk.  I believe the rest of the movies are shown at Baker Park.  Check the website for more info.

Now in it’s sixth season, don’t miss a single night of this unique outdoor movie event featuring family-friendly classics like you’ve never seen them before … under the stars! We provide the movies, the screen and the stars; you bring your family and friends for a fun-filled night at the Cinema! Recapture the magic of outdoor movies with two cinematic favorites on the big screen.  Movies begin at dusk.  Food vendors will be available for your convenience. Come early to secure your seat (bring your own blanket and chairs) and to enjoy the pre-movie activities.  For your convenience, vendors will be on site with delicious food, including hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken tenders, Italian sausage, pulled pork, fries, funnel cakes and so much more.  Menu varies nightly.

The Summer Concert Series is held at 7:00 PM on Sunday nights in the Baker Park bandshell (which, by the way is looking pretty nice after undergoing renovations, although it’s not quite done yet) .  Anyone attending is asked to bring a non-perishable food item to help out the Frederick food bank and the concerts themselves are free.

Enjoy free, high-quality musical entertainment on Sunday nights in June, July and August at the Baker Park bandshell as Summer Concert Series kicks off another season in 2009.  From reggae and zydeco to classic rock and bluegrass, Summer Concert Series showcases professional musicians from a wide range of musical backgrounds.  Previous artists have included jazz legend Charlie Byrd, Spyro Gyro’s Scott Ambush and Julio Fernandez, country chart-climber Cleve Francis, Bluegrass favorite Railroad Earth, L.A.-based latin group Incendio, bluesman Tom Principato and many more.

Over 30,000 residents and visitors attend what has become a Sunday night tradition in Frederick.  Concerts begin at 7 p.m. with food vendors in attendance earlier.  So bring your blanket, bring your family and enjoy music under the stars.

And here’s the schedule for the 2009 Summer Concert Series:

Summer Nite (annoys me, too) Cinema sounds so awesome. We’ve been in the area for two summers now and have managed to miss this event over and over, so I definitely plan on attending this year.

The “Nite” is so ye olde sounding though. I’m all about the free events, we really ought to take advantage.

Concerts are great, have some in my schedule.

Is it possible to have more than 2 movies scheduled for summer – one June 6th………and……………one August 22nd? Low budget affair, maybe local movie group can organize and present on outdoor screen, simple as budget allows, in Baker Park.
