Alive @ Five 2009

The Downtown Frederick Partnership has posted the schedule for Alive @ Five 2009 on its website.

Enjoy NINE Alive @ Five happy hours on the banks of Carroll Creek throughout the summer!  Great music, food, beer and wine from downtown restaurants and an exciting atmosphere make this a must attend summer event!

Alive @ Five 2009 kicks off on May 14th and is held the second and fourth Thursday of each month from through September 10th at the Carroll Creek Park Amphitheatre between Market and Carroll Streets. Each event occurs from 5 – 8pm.  Must be 21+ to enter.

ID required. $5 cover.

The first band to kick off this year’s Alive @ Five on May 14th  is Jah Works (turn your sound down if you are at work!), a Reggae band  that plays in Frederick pretty frequently.

Alive @ Five is a great time. Maybe we can try again to do another get-together.  By the way, when they say bring ID, they really mean it.  They check everybody’s ID, no matter how old you look!

I don’t understand why there’s a cover? Every other city I’ve lived in with a similar event has had no cover, no ID check. They made money by selling food and beer. It was always a good time.

I’m not positive but I think it’s a fundraiser for the Partnership. As for ID’s, since it’s a happy hour, all they serve is beer and wine and water bottles along with the featured restaurant’s food. If the servers had to check everyone’s ID, the lines would take forever to get through.

Alive @ Five is the largest fundraiser for the Downtown Partnership. The $5 cover charge helps pay for the bands and the remainder goes back into future events sponsored by the Partnership. The money from the food and drinks goes to the local vendors who are providing it to cover their costs.

This year there will be a discounted season pass, so stay tuned for more information on that…

The cover charge is only required to get into the food/drink area, and to get close to the stage. I like to listen from the other side of the creek, where it’s free. We buy some takeout from one of the many downtown restaurants, sit on a blanket by the library, and enjoy the music.
