CineGraphics news

2009 March 24

As we told you earlier this month, Cinegraphics Studios is moving once again.  In case you missed it in the comments, Eric had an explanation for the move and also broke the news here that the name of the store is changing.  Man, I love a good scoop!

The new shop will be at 401 North Market, and we will be changing the name…
It will be the first time something other than a liquor store has been on that corner since 1886.

It’s good to know my sources were accurate on the new location.  By the way, I’m glad to see more businesses going up on the North end of Market St.  I hope the city makes an effort to extend certain events further north.  And now for the new name, from Eric:

The new name is:
Mondo Gonzo

Wow! Thanks for the scoop! I’m glad that corner’s going to be spruced up, and that the “viable” downtown strip is getting a bit longer. I just hope that Mondo Gonzo will see good business there and help be an anchor store for a block full of “cool” stores.

Ah, two of my kids’ favorite stores, Vibrant Artwear and (the store formerly knows as )Cinegraphic Studios will be within a block of one another. I hope it works for them, they’ve always seemed like such great guys. Please keep some of the kid-friendly stupid stuff, Eric! Future Pink Flamingos fans start out buying yodeling pickles and wind-up snails…

Eric, I agree…my kids LOVE your store! Please don’t make your new place so “adult” that we can’t bring the kids along.

The Marie Antoinette doll with the pop off head is a family favorite!

So glad to hear you are staying in Frederick…

Nobody 17 or under can come in without a parent…not just an adult, but a parent.
Let’s see these kids try to shoplift in front of mom & dad.
I’m not stocking sex-toys (yet), but if I cause a parent to have a conversation with a child because of something they’ve seen in the shop, I’ve done a good thing.
We’ve already had our first water leak today, and the electric company was here to turn off the power because the landlord has a $700 past due bill…….
Are there ANY decent landlords in Frederick!? Jeesh!

Wow, Eric you can’t seem to catch a break with the landlord situation. I have always enjoyed your store (in various locations) and take visitors in when downtown. Is there anything toursim council or economic dev can do for you (and i assume other tenants)? I mean isn’t the whole idea being to try and attract biz that will attract buyers who will spend $$ in our little hamlet….

I wish you some peace in all this aggravation, hang in there

So sorry Eric. We loved your store and ALWAYS came in with our kids. Never felt out of place at all (coming from NY, nothing shocks us!) Your store was one of the first places we noticed when we moved here 4 1/2 years ago. It was always fun to come in and shop. Your one-of-a-kind items will be very hard to find here in Frederick. When will you be closing?

Just drove by Mondo Gonzo and looks like they are closing for good. Sad!

It looks like you are correct Marie. It definitely says “Store closing” on the door. Such a shame.

      Wow, that was short-lived.

I had wondered about the below statement posted when Mondo Gonzo first opened:

“Nobody 17 or under can come in without a parent…not just an adult, but a parent.”

I never got to Mondo Gonzo, but wondered if it was “my kind of store” (even though I don’t have kids and would never be mistaken for a prude).

This is disheartening. This was such a fun and welcoming spot. Where will I go for last minute gifts now? :/
