Friday Free-For-All:Fill in the Blank
I’ve wracked my brain and all my resources this week and still, I have nothing to offer. It bugs me when there is nothing new to post about for this many days in a row, so I am asking you. What do you want to talk about? Do you have anything to plug? Anything to vent about? Anything you are wondering about? Any hot tips that you want us to know about? Leave a comment and let us know what you are up to these days.
I’ll start with a bit of a rant. The Gazette is reporting that a new shopping center is going to open in Urbana without an anchor grocery store. Those of us who live in the area know that the last thing we need in this area is:
Buffalo Wild Wings, a Rite Aid Pharmacy, Bank of America, Georgetown Valet dry cleaner, Ledo Pizza, and The Fractured Prune.
A bit of competition for Giant grocery store might be nice but the rest I can do without. I’d rather have those trees and a less confusing traffic pattern back.

I had an idea for a group project. Basically I wanted to make a list of cheap eats for each day of the week. For example, kids eat free at Barley & Hops on Tuesday (i think).
So the end product would be a list of dining deals organized by day of week. So if you are going out you can check the list first to see if you can get a bargain.
Any thoughts?

I’m also wondering when Westview Village is going to sign more tenants to that plaza. So far, only 6 out of the 27 spaces are going to be occupied.

My mom heard that PF Chang’s was going in Westview Village. Who knows if it’s true though.
I still hear the Hooter’s rumor occasionally as well.
Can they put anymore traffic circles in Urbana?
Lizfrog, I don’t blame you for the mini-rant about what’s supposed to go in the new shopping center in Urbana. Seems like every new shopping center comes complete with a dry cleaners, pizza place, Rite Aid or CVS, bank, and at least one artery-clogging, fast-food/specialty food kind of place, whether the surrounding community needs them or not. (Re Fractured Prune: I only drive through Urbana occasionally, but isn’t there already a Dunkin’ Donuts in the vicinity?)
Wouldn’t it have been great if, say, a Trader Joes was scheduled to be included? I know…..I’m dreaming.
Well, here’s some news: in the Gazette article about the stimulus highway projects, they didn’t say what they planned on doing at the Md. Route 80 and Big Woods Road/Ijamsville Road intersection (it just said “safety improvements”). However, what they are going to do is put a traffic light in there, widening MD 80 to include left and right turn lanes in both directions. The project bid about a month ago, so I’m guessing it should be starting soon.
@K, it’s about time! That intersection scares the crap out of me at certain times of the day. Especially when I was teaching my oldest to drive and now the younger one has her learner’s permit. They should have done something about that intersection before they started building. I actually wrote a post about that intersection almost three years ago!
