Changes to Rte. 355
According to an article in the Gazette, the construction that’s been going on on Route 355 at the intersection of I-70 is forcing a traffic shift starting Monday, December 1st. Be on the look out for changes to the north bound lanes:
The State Highway Administration will reroute northbound traffic on Route 355, just south of Frederick, onto newly constructed lanes. Weather permitting, the new traffic pattern begins 9 p.m. Monday just north of Walser Drive.
The widening of Route 355 is part of a $93 million project to improve the interchange on Interstate 70 at Route 85 (Buckeystown Pike) and Route 475 (East Street).
By shifting northbound traffic to the new lanes, crews will be able to work on the median while maintaining traffic flow.
Also, the SHA will shift traffic along Walser Drive to a newly constructed section as part of roadway widening for the East Street extension. SHA will shift traffic to allow crews work on the south side of the road.
The interchange project is scheduled for completion fall 2009. Variable message signs, barrels and flaggers will guide motorists through the new traffic pattern.

This should be fun …
I agree. Let’s see how many lanes of traffic we can squeeze down to one lane on Market Street.
It’s probably just me, but it seems like this project has been going on forever. Even so, I bet it doesn’t meet its targeted fall 2009 completion.
I heard a WFMD interview that stated, weather permitting, both lanes of traffic over the bridge will be open by “early” spring.
This intersection has been under a perpetual state of construction since about 1995.
