Thanks for mentioning the Chamber's Twitter feed!

It's always interesting to see places through a visitor's eyes ... Not necessarily how I view Frederick, but I love it that our town was featured in a national publication.

Nice to see Frederick get a well-deserved plug in the NY Times. While the article captures much of the special "flavor" that distinguishes Frederick, I do think it went a bit overboard in depicting the Museum of Civil War Medicine rather sensationally as essentially macabre in nature rather than as a fine, educational venue that Frederick should be proud of .

kalidurga, just for the record, it appears the author of the article is one Joshua Kurlantzick; I think "the woman" you refer to is Susana Raab, photographer of the featured photo. I do agree with you that Joshua's little dig at his home town was unnecessary--Baltimore offers its own echoes of yesterday and interesting eccentricity along with, yes, the same kind of shopping center sprawl that is encroaching on Frederick and many other places. (Sometimes familiarity does breed contempt.)

I agree with JJP. It's great that an article about Frederick is in a national newspaper. Yippee.

It's nice to see Frederick getting a fresh write-up in the tourist section of the NY Times. I think the last one was in '86. Now, let's rip it to shreds and call the writer a buffoon. Jeez.

The irony of that first paragraph cracked me up. The entire article is very romanticized. She definitely describes some of the best elements of Frederick, but it's very obvious that she only saw downtown and missed the "urban sprawl of shopping centers" that's creeping out into that vista of "broad plains, rolling hills and the occasional barn".

And Baltimore has its own "echoes of yesteryear" and very interesting history. Has the woman never explored her own home town?

But negative nitpicking aside, though, it is a great article from a tourist's perspective. Anyone considering a day-trip to Frederick would do well to give it a read.

Quote: "In recent years, Maryland’s farms have undergone a rebirth, refocusing on organic produce..."

Actually, this is a pretty romanticized version. The truth is far far more farms have been lost to development.
