FYI from VOLT
I got this email from VOLT for your information:
For one night only, on Friday, November 21, VOLT invites you to an evening of gastronomic indulgence. Welcoming guests into the Chef’s Dining Room, Chef will craft a seven-course tasting menu highlighting the decadent white truffle. Hailing from Italy’s luxurious Piedmont region, VOLT honors the beauty of this highly coveted fungus boasting earthy, garlicky flavors.
This particular truffle’s arrival is a telling of the fall season while welcoming the winter months ahead. We are offering two seatings for this special evening; one at 6:00 pm and one at 8:30 pm. The seven-course tasting menu is priced at $150 per person and an additional $50 for a spectacular wine paring. To view the menu please visit our menus on the website. You don’t want to miss this dinner. To secure a reservation you can book directly online through our website or by calling our reservation
desk. If booking online, please note “truffle tasting” in the notes section.
Here’s the menu for this one-night-only event.

All I have to say is, that’s pretty steep in this economy.
I was there for dinner last evening. Bryan gave us a truffled macaroon that was wonderful. I wish I could make it for Friday.
$200 with wine is dear for us locals, but not too bad for the metro area. I went to a truffle dinner Galileo in DC several years ago that was $350 per person with wine. It was a great evening (I miss the place!) and is a fond memory.
…If booking online, please note “wall street exec” in the notes section….
That is a very reasonable price for a white truffle tasting. The white truffle is currently selling on Dartagnan for $308 an oz. I only wish they were offer a 5 course tasting
Early on I knew I didn’t have the makings of a gourmand when I realized that there was NO edible substance in this world–be it white (or black) truffle, caviar, foie gras, or anything else–that could possibly taste good enough to justify paying sums like $308 for a single ounce–or even $350 for a single meal.
It was the best of times, it was the worst of times…
FYI….Volt is ranked at #15 on Washingtonian’s Top 100 Restaurants for 2009. The 2009 Top 100 list is published in February issue.
Well Done Mr. Voltaggio and Ms. Staples!
That’s awesome! I checked the website and they are only down to #18 so when they get to #15, I’ll post a link here in comments.

Bryan Voltaggio and Volt have been named a James Beard Foundation semi-finalist. This is an incredible accomplishment for a restaurant that has only been open 6 months. See the link in Saturday’s FNP:
