Biking and Walking in the City
The City of Frederick will be hosting an open meeting about biking and walking in the City:
Come one, come all to talk about walking and biking in the City of Frederick! This meeting will have a host of agenda items pertaining to pedaling and walking transportation. The meeting will be held in the 1st Floor Boardroom of City Hall 101 North Court Street on Wednesday November 19th from 10:00 AM -12:00 Noon.
The agenda is as follows:
- Bike and Walking around Ft Detrick (draft results of a special study)
- The City Shared Use Path Plan – what updates are needed and are coming
- Sidewalk Inventory Discussion
- Planning Links to Other Systems
- Opportunities for Grants
- Biking at Hood and FCC
I know we have some bikers and walkers out there so I thought I would share. If you plan on attending the meeting here is a Google Map link for City Hall, which now offers walking directions.

How exciting! Is anyone going? Please post an update! I love walking/biking and find that unfortunately Frederick is still a city where you need a car to get around. I live close to lots of stores and walk/bike to them sometimes but feel like i could get run over by cars all the time.
Some places are not connected by sidewalks – it just ends somewhere.
I also get annoyed by cars not stopping at pedestrian crosswalks, this happens downtown as well as in residential neighborhoods.
What are your favorite paths/routes in the city?
Seems like most of the folks that this meeting would be of interest to, will be unable to attend as they will be working for a living.
Ditto Denton’s observation. As a mostly pedestrian who walks to work almost every day, strolls of cycles downtown at least weekly and basically mostly only uses the car for hauling things, I’ve gotta say that while Frederick is pretty ped and cycle friendly, it could be better. The chokepoints to cross 15 are very, very annoying, for instance.
