Dog Park Open
Looks like the City’s Dog Park is now open …
The City of Frederick Parks & Recreation Department is excited to announce the opening of our first Dog Park. The Dog Park is located at 212 Carroll Parkway, at the corner of North Bentz Street and Carroll Parkway across from Baker Park. We are extremely pleased to offer this park to all residents, particularly those in the downtown area. The official ribbon cutting ceremony will be Wednesday, November 19, 2008 at 5:00 p.m. at the Dog Park.
Please be advised that all dogs must be registered and receive a tag from the Department of Parks & Recreation prior to using the park. You may visit the William R. Talley Recreation Center at 121 North Bentz Street during normal business hours to apply for and receive your tag prior to using the park. The brochure and application are also on our website.
I got to get Mr. Softy over there to make some new friends.

That Mr. Softy is one cute pup! (Cute kid too!!)
Thanks! He’s laying by my feet snoring right now. The dog that is. The boy is watching Jimmy Neutron.
I have been waiting for a dog park to open! A couple of years ago a woman was petitioning for one and I never heard anything more about it. Will be taking Lucy over for the opening!
Awwww, I just saw Mr. Softy! Definitely a cutie.
I couldn’t get the link for the application to open. Here’s another one:

Just want to give an updated link for the application:

thanks for the website, this one worked for me, it doesn’t say
how much it costs.
Can we stop by if we’re not local? How can we get registered if we’re just in on the weekend? I’m desperate to have a place to take my dog this weekend in Frederick…
I’m pretty sure this dog park is for local dogs who are pre-registered. I’m thinking if you are coming this weekend you won’t have time to pre-register. However, if you keep your dog leashed, the dog park is near quite a nice park (Baker Park) in which you should be able to exercise your dog quite nicely.
Lisa, just saw your post, maybe a bit late but fchs.org is located around the corner from the park and they have details about the dog park. check them out online or give them a call for more information. And as lizfrog stated Baker park is a huge park, runs along Carroll Creek, if you keep walking turns into culler lake, more fields, so if you are downtown there should be plenty of options for your pup to enjoy some grass! also alot of the downtown merchants are dog friendly, look for the dogbone sign on their door. Enjoy your visit!
They are going to have park staff there check that every dog through the gate is registered? Seems like a waste of city funds, though the park itself is a great idea and I hope many more are to come.
