October 2008 Events in Frederick County
I don’t know about you, but to me, September just flew right by. So here are a few things that I have found going on in our county for the month of October. I know I won’t be able to list all the events going on so as always, feel free to add to my list in the comments section.
Next Saturday, October 4th during the day is In the Street.
Then later that evening, First Saturday moves to the evening hours of 5-9PM with the theme Into the Night.
Downtown Frederick goes “Into the Night” with a Fall Harvest First Saturday after In The Street. Enjoy an evening of hayrides, pumpkin painting, square dancing and more! The carnival atmosphere continues with magicians, jugglers, and stiltwalkers. Feel the Halloween spirit with pumpkins and scarecrows decorated by local merchants. Don’t miss the Spooky Stations located throughout downtown…Find all the body parts that fell off Freddy Frederick!
October 11th and 12th from 9AM-5PM is the Catoctin Colorfest.
The Summers Farm Fall Harvest Days lasts all month.
Wine Down Fridays are still going on this month at Elk Run Vineyards.
October 10th is the 12th annual Evening on the Riviera at the Lynfield Complex.
October 10th and 11th is the 72 Film Fest at the Weinberg.
The 72 Film Fest is an annual film festival that has the mission “to bring under-screened and independent films to the people of Frederick, and to provide an outlet for the creative community by hosting challenges in the fields of filmmaking, writing, and other arts” formed by local filmmakers and associates Clark Kline, Jason Streff and Salyer McLaughlin.
Regional filmmakers will have only 72 hours to write, direct, and edit a short film.
October 18th is the date for the rescheduled First Saturday that was rained out in early September. The theme is Around the World in 15 Blocks.
The September First Saturday activities have been rescheduled for Saturday, October 18th from 1 – 6pm due to the rain caused by Hurricane Hanna…
Go Around the World in 15 Blocks of Downtown Frederick! Explore the world with international music, crafts, and demonstrations from different countries and regions including Ireland, France, Asia, Germany, Central South America and more!
October 17th, 18th, 24th and 25th are the Costume Party Murder Mystery Dinner Train on the Walkersville Southern Railroad. Then on the 31st, the Trains become Ghost Trains! Here’s the October train ride schedule.
October 18th and 19th is the Vintage Jazz Wine Festival at Linganore Winecellars. You’ll have to check back to that events page for more info later.
Here’s a more complete list from the Frederick tourism’s calender of events.

I wanted to add that the Comedy Pigs are having an early show on October 10 at 9:00 at the Maryland Ensemble Theater.
Thanks Christine. Here’s the website for them but it doesn’t look current?

Much needed information. Thanks, lizfrog!
My pleasure.
I’m new to Frederick downtown and was wondering if there’s anything going on for Halloween night downtown — for a more adult crowd?
