Jennifer’s Sold

The News-Post has the information about the sale of Jennifer’s Restaurant that was mentioned in the comments of the previous post.

Jennifer Dougherty, the Democratic candidate for Maryland’s 6th District, is selling her downtown Frederick restaurant.

Dougherty, a former Frederick mayor, said tonight would be her last night as owner. The restaurant will close for the next couple of weeks to transfer the liquor license and other permits and then Jennifer’s will reopen as Mick’s New American Bistro.

The new owner is Mick Strine, a commercial real estate broker, Dougherty said. She has owned the restaurant since 1987.

Dougherty said the decision to sell was based in part on her belief that she will defeat incumbent Republican Roscoe Bartlett in November’s election.

“I want to be 100 percent committed to the district, without any other business to attend to,” she said.

The one time I went there. When we walked in a big guy walked up to us waving his hands saying “we don’t have food after eight if you come in” So! we left!

It is really amazing the way the people are bad mouthing Jennifer’s (here and in the FNP). She was in business for 21 years. Um, she must have done something right. Her lunches were always very busy. My father (God rest his soul) used to rave about her ambiance. She had a lot of loyal customers, I being one of them. Her food was good and you got a good serving for what you paid. Could she be a bit testy at times, sure. But most of the time she was very gracious. Jennifer’s is going to be missed by a lot people.

Whoops, wrong place. Jennifer’s was on the market for well over a year. This was not a spur of the moment sale.

I agree, Nwirth. I really enjoyed the Irish-Anglo charm of Jennifer’s. It reminded me of a set lifted from one of my favorite Britcoms. Jennifer wasn’t exactly warm and fuzzy, but the food was quite good, the prices reasonable, and the facility clean and inviting.

I will miss Jennifer Dougherty’s restaurant.

We live nearby Jennifers and would walk there frequently for lunch or dinner. I like the ambience of the place. Even though I rarely ever vote Democrat, she might have my vote! She’s a no-nonsense woman and she’s always very nice to us when we stop in for food. She isn’t a good politician insofar as she doesn’t paint a rosey picture of herself so that everyone likes her. She is what she is and she gets the job done. She has my vote.

She was rude, indignant to most, way out of her element and had no respect for the customer. Her restaurant offering was less than mediocre and deserved about the sames rating as her ill fated political career (if you could call it that) If someone thinks her restaurant was good, they probably voted for the Red Lobster as Fredericks best seafood restaurant as well.

She needs to find a position where she does not need to deal with people. Telemarketing might be good, maybe night watchman.

She was the night watchman to close down Xhale!

Okay, Okay, Jennifer’s is closed now.

Has anyone been to Mick’s yet? I saw they had a sign out front that they are open.

Yes — my fiance and I tried it earlier this week and it was really good. Mick’s is a huge improvement over the previous establishment. The interior has been freshened up and it isn’t as dark and dreary as before. I would describe the menu as classic American with a bistro flair. I had the meatloaf muffins (with mashed potatoes to die for and green beans). My fiance had the “chicken roasted chicken” and he said it was very good (I didn’t try it). The new owner, Mick, came over and greeted us and made sure that everything was OK. He seems like a very nice person who genuinely wants the customers to be satisfied. We will definitely go back!

Wow! That sounds good. Was it pricy? Just curious?

No more expensive than other places downtown. I think our entrees were around $18-$22 each. Some of the entrees (steak and seafood) were a little more. I tried looking for a web site, but it doesn’t appear that they have one.

Darrell, it’s a shame Xhale/X2 are closed. They needed better locations, but young people need fun places to dance and chill.

Where do people go these days? Isn’t Fusion history?

Fusion closed and re-opened as Mack’s Rock Bar. They have a MySpace page.

I heard Jennifer is opening a new restaurant in the old WestSide Cafe location downtown. Not sure about any of the details though.
