Things I’ve noticed…
…while walking and driving around town this past week.
*The road construction at FSK Mall continues, but there are a few new developments. When entering Spectrum Drive from 85, we are now faced with three (!) new traffic lights before getting to the stop sign at Holiday/Genstar Drive. A bit of overkill if you ask me! I’ve also personally witnessed lots of confusion from people not used to the new lights. Most of the confusion is either cars blowing through red lights after stopping where a stop sign used to be or people who have been stopping at the site of a former stop sign even though the sign is gone. Just a word of warning to watch out for some crazy driving before folks get used to the new traffic lights.
*Paving has begun on the East St. extension south of South St.
*There’s a lot of work being done downtown on the tree lawns around 2nd St. near the Talley Rec. Center. Every block seems to have a large hole dug and if I had to take a guess, I’d say that maybe some new street lamps are going to be installed. Anyone know what’s going on with all the holes? I think it’s safe to say they aren’t installing FIOS!!
*Construction has begun on the new North End Hope VI project. So far it just looks like giant mounds of dirt, but eventually there will be 97 housing units and a new community center. From the WTOP website:
The north end community center will house a number of non-profit organizations including Head Start, Community Agency School Services, CALM mediation center, a neighborhood networks lab and employment incubator Cakes for Cause.
Crews have started grading the site where housing will be built and installing new sewer and water lines.
The City of Frederick is funding the project with more than $4 million, mainly for infrastructure work.
Have you noticed anything around town that you’ve been wondering about?

I’ve certainly noticed the HOPE VI construction.
Hard not too, when someone starts jackhammering outside your back door at 7 A.M.
The lights will be good in the long run, but you’re right you do have to get used to them!
I’m interested to see if it will help with the Holiday/Christmas traffic nightmare. My fingers are crossed!!!
