Breaking news: Camp Genstar is burning
I went out this morning at 8 AM to test drive my daughter’s Mazda because she said it was making weird noises. I didn’t hear any noises to alarm me, but I did smell a distinct burning smell.
When we got back from Alive@5 at around 7:30 (my god, it was stinking hot and Liz & I were the only FredNets identifiable), I naturally took the goats out for a walk before going for a refreshing swim in the pool.
On our walk, I saw a large plume of smoke emanating from the side of the hill that is Camp Genstar. A large, billowing plume. Minutes before, I heard and saw fire trucks running up and down Ball Road. I called the Urbana VFD and told them that I thought the fire they were looking for was at Camp Genstar.
There are currently several engines down there and I spoke with one of the engine drivers and they told me they have everything “under control”.
Not speculating, but that property has been up for sale for about a year. I think that it’s probably just some kids who made a camp fire and didn’t put it out all of the way.
