Maryland Brewer’s Springfest

May 20, 2008 · 7 Comments

Next Saturday, May 31st is the Maryland Brewer’s Springfest at Harry Grove Stadium. This event runs from 12 noon until 8PM . Tickets for adults ate $17 in advance, $20 at the door, $10 for youths age 13-20 and designated drivers. 12 and under are admitted free of charge.

Brewers include Barley and Hops, Brewer’s Alley, Flying Dog, Clipper City and DuClaw Brewing. There will be over 60 beers on site to try.

There will be live music with three bands. From 1:00-2:00 is 21 the Difference. From 3:00-5:00 is the Freddie Long Band and from 6:00-7:30 is The Reagan Years.

The event website promises “great food and unique shopping” but they don’t elaborate so I have no clue what is so great about the food or how unique the shopping is! But if you are a beer fan, especially of beers brewed here in Maryland, this may be just the thing for you.

If it is like last years event, the food is the stadium vendors(which is good) and the shopping is Brewery related merchandise along with a few other art crafters. It was a great time last year and I am hoping for the same this year. The bands are set up at home plate and face the stands so you can relax with a good brew and enjoy the entertainment.

    Cheers!

I have family coming in to visit, so this sounds like a fun event to take them to.

What do you get for the admissions fee? Is the beer free inside (or discounted)? Are we paying $20 for the “opportunity” to spend more money on beer, food, and beer-related merchandise?

Last year, you got tokens for 6 free beers (can’t remember if they were 4 ounces or 6 ounces since I was the DD, anyway). Additional tokens can be purchased, however, as the evening wore on the brewers just didn’t feel like toting half full kegs to their trucks so they were giving it away. My husband and some friends of mine are going again this year. I’ll be DD again since I’m not a beer drinker.

The one complaint that I had is that Designated Drivers pay to get in, but get almost no benefit other than the music. They could at least toss in free sodas or something.

Thanks Patti! If it’s not raining too much I’ll head over…I hear thunderstorms are expected all day off and on around here.

You’re quite welcome! BTW, I totally forgot — the guys also got plastic beer mugs with Maryland Brewer’s Springfest & Frederick Keys logos on them to drink their beer from. :) They discovered some great beers that they hadn’t tried before, and we got lots of quality entertainment from a drunk “Hillary ‘08″ chick who kept following us and ranting.

The brewers did have stuff for sale, but there were some other booths as well. I seem to remember crazy t-shirts (”The liver is evil and must be punished!”), hot sauce, flavored popcorn, and some other stuff.

If you can, buy your tickets online before you head over — it’s a $3 savings!

Basically you get two beers for 17 duckets. Seems like the word publicity got mixed up with the word greed. Just enough to soften you up. Probably not the brewer’s fault though. Reminds me of the blues fest.
