May Events in Frederick County
April seems to have flown right by and here we are, almost in May. While walking around town, I’ve seen a burst of color from all the flowering trees and there’s a definite smell of spring in the air. Which brings me to make this incomplete list of things to do while you are out and about in the county during the month of May. As always, feel free to add any events that you know about in the comments.
The theme for First Saturday, May 3rd, is Celebrating Spring!
Join Downtown Frederick Partnership and BB&T Bank on Saturday, May 3rd from 5 – 9pm as downtown Frederick celebrates spring! After a full day of Mayfest actitivities (10am – 5pm), enjoy live entertainment, dinner at one of downtown’s fabulous restuarants or shop at over 70 independently owned and operated unique boutiqes from 5 – 9pm!
Also on May 3rd is Mayfest at Everedy Square and Shab Row, from 10AM-9PM.
The Frederick Keys are at home for several games during the month of May.
The Urbana Fairgrounds is the location for the Frederick Celtic Festival on May 10th from 10AM until 6PM with an evening concert from 7PM-10PM. Tickets are $15 while children under 12 are admitted free. Tickets include admission to the daytime events and the evening concert. Concert only tickets my be purchased for $10. (They really need to fix the directions on that site though. Urbana is definitely not EAST of Frederick. Head South on 355, not East!)
Pangaea Frederick is on May 10th.
Alive @ Five 2008 kicks off on May 22nd.
May 15th-18th is the annual Greek Festival at the Saints Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church on 7th Street.
May 24th and 25th is the Caribbean Wine Festival at Linganore Winecellars.
May 31st is the 2008 Maryland Brewer’s Springfest at Harry Grove Stadium. This event runs from 12PM-8PM.
Check out the calendar of events at the Frederick Tourism Website for more information.

I don’t know if this is considered an event, it is more of shameless self-promotion! I am now taking students for a portrait sculpting class at my studio starting in May. Check out my website to learn more: http://www.HempelStudios.com
More shameless self promotion: the Frederick Symphony Orchestra (yes, there is one!) performs its “Sounds of Spring” program Saturday evening, May 3rd, at 8pm in the J.B. Kussmaul Theater at Frederick Community College. The program will include Smetana’s Bartered Bride Overture, Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in C Major, Op. 15 and Copland’s Appalachian Spring Suite. More information is available at http://www.FrederickSymphony.org.
I love going to the Greek Festival!! Yummy! I mark this on my calendar every year. The deserts are great!
There is also the YMCA/Frederick Police 150th Birthday Party on Saturday the 17th. It’s a free event and goes from 12-4 – free events, cake and fun! Come say hi – my company, Tots2Tweens will be there with pinatas, party hats and blowers and goodie bags!
Don’t Miss Out! Schifferstadt Architectural Museum located at 1110 Rosemont Ave. is presenting a series of free Living History events this summer! Please stop on by!
