As far as I've heard Verizon has stopped their buildout for Fios and will now only be focusing on the markets where they already offer service or where they already have agreements with the county or city. I wouldn't be surprised if Frederick county never sees Fios. I've heard from numerous people (and read on Frederick News Post) that the county has a franchise agreement with Comcast, so the only competition we are going to see for a long time is from DirecTV, Dish Network, and all the wireless, mobile, (and DSL providers that are allowed to use Verizon's existing lines) for internet service.

I currently pay $200.00 a month for a digital package with HBO, one DVR, an HD box, High-speed internet, and digital voice. When I lived in Florida, I had the same three services through Bright House Networks and paid them $110.00 a month. It is absolutely disgusting what has been allowed to happen here in Maryland. Comcast is a monopoly in Frederick county, and you can blame our county and city government for that, and for the fact we may have missed our chance to get Fios. I honestly can't wait until I can move out of this area.

Frederick County grants a monopoly to Comcast. There are other parts of the country that allow cable companies to compete. My older son owned a condominium in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida which allows competing cable companies. Each year, the condo association negotiated with the cable companies to offer the best packages and lowest prices to the building. Frederick County has never allowed more than one cable company. I own a business and have a lot of competition. We have to offer competitive prices and superior service to keep customers. If you need a technician to come to your home for internet problems, you must be willing to wait up to seven days. This is unacceptable. Competition might provide lower cost, better choices, and better service. It would take a large number of unhappy people to lobby our County Commissioners to allow competition.

Well, I live in Frederick County, VA. Yes, there is a Frederick County Virginia. And we are having the same problem. I was just told by a neighbor that the reason why Frederick County, Va will not let FIOS in is because they have a deal with Comcast that there will be only one cable provider in the county. I thought that they could not do that because of fair market competition. But someone is getting something.

My friend's son has FIOS and I know of others that have it too. I've read someone's post on here that the quality of FIOS is just about the same. I beg the different. I have Comcast and I can tell you that FIOS quality is so much better. My HD on Comcast doesn't look no better than regular TV on Comcast and it's not my TV because my TV is a brand new Sony. Very good TV set and that's what my son has also. I can't believe the picture quality that he has. The same individual reported that Comcast has more HD. NOT. He has more HD than I do and I have all the channel line up and he's paying cheaper than I am. With Comcast the HD freezes all the time. Not once and a while but all the time so I have to turn the channel to the regular TV. All I have is Comcast TV and my bill is $158 per month. He has TV, internet, phone and cell and his bill is $186 per month because he said he upgraded his internet services.

Now the strangest thing is that in my neighborhood all the homes are wired for FIOS phone, internet and TV. And FIOS internet and phone is available so I don't understand why we cannot have FIOS TV. I think it's time for Comcast to have a little competition. As for customer service I called and asked for a HD/DVR box for another TV that I am getting. The guy on the phone told me that they are out of those boxes. WHAT!!!! You should have more of these boxes because this is what TVs are equipped for these days. Also, the person on the other end didn't particular wanted to help me. He was in a hurry to get me off the phone. Bad customer service. The girl on the TV, of course , is an actress. They are not that friendly. So then he asked me to call back in a couple of weeks because they have some on order. Well, I waited one day called back and talked to a different person and was told that I can just go pick up one at one of their locations. Wow, that order came in pretty fast.

I live in an all adult community and we are a separate entity because the post office recognizes our area with a separate name. We are not on the map. So I don't understand why our little city can't get FIOS. Oh and the one last myth. I had a special deal with my INTERNET SERVICE for two years and when the two years was up it went up $10. That's it. A lot of my neighbors had Comcast TV and after the special was up it went up twice as much as what they were paying. Now being in an adult community those that are retired could not afford that. And when they called they received rude service so they hung up and went with satellite. It was really funny because you saw the truck come in and one after the other homes satellite was installed. I still work so I could afford the extra charge but it's really ridiculous.

After reading through the comments/theories on why Verizon hasn't run FIOS into Frederick County, I agree that the delay is mystifying. You have to assume that there's some business reason hanging up Verizon's move from Montgomery County into a fairly large, fairly affluent neighboring customer base in Frederick. (Surely the Frederick gov't isn't at fault in some way?)

It's hard to interpret who is likely to get FIOS service based on factors like size and age of neighborhood. For example, I live in northern Montgomery County in a 15-year-old, 200-house subdivision off to itself within the Agricultural Reserve, yet we were among the first to get FIOS service in the area.

On top of the cost to install FIOS, I was told when I inquired to a Verizon technician doing work in my moms house in Montgomery County that a big part of the reason Frederick has not received FIOS as of yet is the taxation Frederick County wants to put on FIOS. He said that they wanted to put such a heavy franchise tax on the service that it would be uncompetitive with Comcast and other service providers.

I just moved here from Minnesota. I must say that it makes my blood boil that fios is not in this area. Comcast is afraid of competition, so they buy up the competition. I would love to see fios in Frederick. and if they add NASA TV before comcast does, I will switch to them the very day they arrive here. I have created a petition to bring fios to our area.

Just a little backround. I live in both Mont. County and in a rural area in DE in Sussex county. I ha e Fios in both places. I would be very surprised that such a small town in DE has Fios and that Frederick would not get it anytime soon. I am about to move to Middletown and buy a home there and just checked and they are not Fios ready. That makes me a little nervous because the neighborhood is only 3 years old. You would think if try were going to start somewhere it would be a place like that. What some of you are saying about information you are getting from Fios o can't say I agree with. From previous conversations I've had with Fios cust service they don't know a lot about what they are talking about. Before the last NHL season I had heard they were going to bring the NHL home ice package on board so I kept calling to find out when. The answer I got many more time the. Once was it wasn't going to happen. Finally I saw an add on tv talking about Fios and NHL home ice. I of course picked up the phone immediatly and aske the representative about it. This gentleman says "oh yeah we've been in talks and planning on getting it for a while." that of course made me happy and I signed up right away. The moral of the story is we have no idea when it'll be in Frederick and neither do their representatives. I know if it's not there when I move there I will definitely be getting Direct TV and dsl Internet because I loath comcast. I will start a drive for Fios when I get there and not stop until it is complete. I have had all the carriers and I find fios to defitely be the top dog in the show. Look out for my petition because it'll be comming to a Federick town near you!!

We switched to DirecTV from Comcast, and now use Verizon DSL. The DirecTV with HD and DVR service (with HBO) is $90 per month and the DSL is $23. Very reliable and the HD is amazing.
