Irish Pub Coming

2008 April 9
by Liz

This got buried in the comments of the last post so I thought I’d bring it to the top of the page with it’s own post. Thanks to TK for the info:

It seems Frederick is getting a new Irish Pub, scheduled to open in July. It’s called Patrick’s Irish Pub and Restaurant and there’s speculation that it’s new location may be the spot recently vacated by Venuti’s on E. Patrick St. in downtown Frederick. Patrick’s currently has a restaurant on Pratt St. in Baltimore which is apparently up for sale so the owners can relocate to Frederick.

I suspect Bushwallers will be okay.

Btw, didn’t I read some speculation somewhere awhile back about Jennifer’s being for sale?

I think Bushwaller’s will be just fine!

The only “Irish” item on their menu is the Shepherd’s Pie. But I do like the selections. I love crab cakes!

Having another Irish bar in town will help keep prices down due to competition.

For me, Jennifer’s can close today. The couple of times I went there the food was horrible!

There’s a fantastic irish place in DC called Fado. Its less than a block from the Verizon Center. Its a franchise restaurant (oddly), but it was fantastic. I went with my best friend and his little sister, who’s recently spent a semester studying in Ireland, and she said Fado is pretty true to what Irish pubs really are, other than the fact that its cleaner lol.

If you could call what they serve at bushwallers food than you are correct. As for it being irish, please don’t insult the thousands of Irish Americans who know how to cook and what real irish food is about. Bushwallers hasn’t been a place to eat in over 20 years. Without smoking I don’t see them making it.

It will be nice to have another irish pub in town. But I agree, it would be great if these places served really good Irish food. It doesn’t have to be expensive or absolutely authentic, but renaming a hamburger with an celtic theme is still just a hamburger.

One of my favorite irish resturants is in Key West – Finnigan’s Wake. Very good food and excellent Guinness (a requirement in my book)! It’s what in my mind what a great Irish pub/resturant should be.

O’Lordans in Westminster is good too, but a drive for me.

    Patrick’s Irish Pub and Restaurant

Well my wife and I waited until January 2009 on a late Saturday afternoon to try the new Irish restaurant out, after reading previous reviews on the restaurants opening problems in November. The restaurant side was empty of people and two tables on the pub side were occupied. Additionally, three men were at the bar. So we decided to sit in the pub side, our bartender Andy was great. However it all went down hill from there. It took about 20 minutes for our waitress to make an appearance, then we order appetizers. She disappeared again, about 20 minutes later our appetizers arrived. My wife had a wonderful Chicken Liver Pate and I had averaged tasting Wings. In the mean time, we looked over the entrees, trying to figure out what was Irish food on the menu, wow, there is none!!! Hmm, dishes from Scotland — Shepard’s Pie, German, Thai, American steak and sea food. Fish and Chips made traditionally in Ireland and UK are made with fresh Cod fish, not rock fish. Maybe the closest to Irish food is Corn Beef and Cabbage, however on my visit to Ireland I seldom saw this on Irish Menus. As my wife discussed the menu poor offerings of Irish food, and the very poor service, we finally were able to track down our waitress after walking around looking for her, we paid our bill and e left never to return!!!!

    Over all impressions:

    1. The Pub side did not give us an Irish feeling!!!

    2. Very Very poor wait service!!!!

    3. No Irish food on the menu

    4. High prices

Bottom line, this is an Irish Pub & Restaurant by name only.

Recommendation go elsewhere if you looking for a true Irish pub and food.

Sorry to hear about your bad experience.

The sole quibble I have with you is this: A lot of Americans find traditional Irish (and Irish-American) fare predictable and boring. Been there, done that 500 times. Patrick’s offers an Irish ambiance with an eclectic menu. You can order traditional AND international. Win-win.

I mean, does it really matter what someone nearby is eating, as long as you are happy with your food? Not for me.

I’m sorry to hear that Patrick’s Irish Pub is not so Irish. I was actually looking forward to dining there. Are they in need of a cook? Dublin Corn Beef and Cabbage, Irish Roast Pork, Irish Stew, Irish Brown Bread, Colcannon. Yum. I’m not Irish but my husband and like to cook dishes that we try out in our dining experiences.

My husband and I typically never return to a restaurant where the service is poor. It sound like poor management and inexperience in running a restaurant will cause the closure of another restaurant.

A few weeks ago we went to Brewers Alley and ordered entries that once had been our favorites. It was horrible and we were so disappointed. What happened?

If a restaurant expects to succeed, especially during these hard economic times, the food, service and atmosphere are so important. Above all if you going to label yourself a Irish, Italian, German restaurant then you need offer the dishes of that region.

Very sorry to hear about the disappointing experience at the new irish pub-Looks like people aren’t being fooled so easily any more and demanding a follow through of what is advertised-Good place to start-So let’s get someplace going that follows through with what it promises-In these times I don’t waste my money on anything but a sure thing! An Irish/Italian American living in Frederick.
