We’ve almost made it through March and spring is here!  The spring flowers are blooming and my sinuses tell me that the trees are starting to bud.  Yea for April!  There’s a lot going on in our county in April and here’s an incomplete list.  Feel free to add anything you know about that’s going on in the comments section.

Play ball!  The Frederick Keys home opener is on Friday, April 4th at 7PM.  The first 1,000 fans receive a replica championship ring and everyone gets a schedule magnet.  Best of all, it’s fireworks night following the game!  Click here for the Keys full month-to-month schedule.

April 5th is the 10th annual Park Day at the Monocacy National Battlefield.

Monocacy National Battlefield in cooperation with the Civil War Preservation Trust and underwritten with a grant from The History Channel, will host the “10th Annual Park Day” cleanup on Saturday, April 5, 2008. Park Day is presented in partnership with Take Pride in America, a division of the U.S. Department of the Interior.

Volunteers are asked to assist with a cleanup project on the Gambrill Mill property. The project will primarily consist of trash removal and at the conclusion of the event, a ranger program will be offered for those who participate in the project.

Also at the Battlefield in April,  April 19th is the day for Battlefield Hikes.  Times are 8:30 and 11AM and 1:30PM.  Reservations required!  Call 301-662-3515.  Also, April 20-26th is National Parks Week.  Go to the Battlefield website calender for more info.

  • Also, kind of related is the following …

The Weinberg Center for the Arts is holding an open forum on April 4 from 7:00 - 10:00 to solicit and talk through ideas for future programming. This event will be hosted by theater manager John Healy and will include free music and a cash bar.

“Open Forum: A Call for Ideas” will be an open discussion about the Weinberg’s current efforts to address the changing needs of the Frederick Community and will solicit creative, fresh approaches to programming. Participants can help brainstorm about ideas currently on the table or bring their own suggestions.

  • Also check out our website - select your location and “Fun As A Family” for other great activities all year long! (www.tots2tweens.com)

  • Another thing going on is the Children’s Festival in Baker Park on April 26th from 10 - 3 (I think) - it’s free for everyone. Come by the Tots2Tweens booth and get a free balloon and temporary tattoo - while the kids color in our coloring pages. See you there!

  • Yes, I mentioned the Children’s Festival and it is indeed 10-3.
