Bike to Work Day
In keeping with the walkable/bike-able theme, I found this bit of information about Bike to Work Day, set for Friday, May 16th on the City of Frederick website.
Commuters throughout the Washington/Baltimore region are encouraged to participate in Bike to Work Day 2008 on Friday, May 16, 2008. TransIT invites you to participate in this annual event that will bring area commuters together to promote bicycling to work as a healthy alternative to drive-alone commuting, lessening traffic congestion and improving air quality.
There will be 26 “pit stops” in communities in the National Capitol region, including one in Frederick at the Transit Center (East Street MARC train station). The Frederick pit stop will offer free food and promotional items, as well as a chance to win a bicycle donated by [FMO Sponsor] the Bicycle Escape. Local officials and bicycle enthusiasts will be on hand at the Transit Center to participate in the celebration from 6:30 am – 8:30 am.
Experienced and novice cyclists are welcome to participate in the event. Prior to biking to work for the first time, however, cyclists should take the time to tune up their bike, map their route, check connections needed for bus, train or rail, and make a trial run.
MARC riders may bike to the downtown station and secure bikes to the racks adjacent to the station. Commuters need to bring a lock to secure bikes. Commuters can bike to a bus stop, secure their bike on the bus bike rack, and ride TransIT to their work site. Instructions for loading and unloading bicycles and suggestions for commuting by bicycle are included in the TransIT Bike Program brochure available on TransIT buses and at www.co.frederick.md.us/Transit/BikeBrochure.pdf.
You can register here and if you get your registration in by May 9th, you get a free t-shirt.

I walk to my downtown job each work day. Can I walk a couple extra blocks to the MARC station and get the freebies?
I am excited about this years event. Jim I will happily offer donuts, coffee, etc. to you and any other walkers. Hope to see you there.
The above link didn’t work for me. I found more info at:

What a great event!
I was a pretty consistent bike commuter last summer and fall and rode from my house on East 7th street to the Monocacy MARC station. For Bike to Work day I’d love to be able to do something more substantial, like ride from downtown to Urbana and Point of Rocks to pick up the 991 bus or train. Anyone game?
This is one of the things I know we are going to love about Frederick.
Keep it up, we’re coming as soon as we can, to support you!
Great things about riding a bike:
No more gym fees and mean personal trainers.
Whoa.. these jeans didn’t fit a month ago!
Stylin’ helmets and tights– ;-p
Best way to see life and the country.
Can’t lock your keys in a bike!
;-D
I’m biking from Frederick MD, to Gaithersburg if anyone is down!
