Baker Park Bridge Closing for Repairs

In addition to lots of other improvements being done in Baker Park, on Monday March 17th, the pedestrian Swinging Bridge in the park will be closed for repairs. According to this press release found on the City of Frederick website:

The City of Frederick will close access to the Swinging Bridge in Baker Park effective Monday, March 17, 2007. The condition of the bridge has deteriorated and will be closed to the public for safety reasons. The Department of Public Works has requested proposals from qualified firms to provide an evaluation of the condition of the bridge, explore possible repair options, and provide cost estimates for doing so, as well as address the historical nature and requirements of any modifications. It is expected that work will be completed the summer of 2008.

We’ve had a few questions here lately about the walkability of our city (I find it very walkable myself) but if you use this bridge regularly, you are going to need to find a new route. Hopefully it won’t take too long to fix.
