March Events in Frederick County

2008 February 27
by Liz

There’s something significant to getting through the month of February for me. Even though we have been known to have some whoppers of snow storms in March, somehow, psychologically it feels like spring is near once we hit March.

Here’s an incomplete list of events going on in Frederick during the month of March. As always, feel free to leave a comment if you know of something going on that you’d like to share (especially if you know of anything going on for St. Patrick’s Day).

This Saturday, March 1st is First Saturday. The theme this month is “Around the World in 15 Blocks”.

“Around The World in 15 Blocks” is First Saturday’s first international theme. The event will feature international guest artists, music, crafts, exhibit openings, demonstrations, food and photographs from countries such as Ireland, France, Mexico, Germany, Brazil and Japan.

On March 21st and 22nd, the Performing Arts Factory presents Alice in Wonderland at the Weinberg.

Also at the Weinberg, celebrate St. Patrick’s Day (2 days early) on March 15th with “the voice of Ireland”, The Tommy Fleming Band. If Bluegrass music is your thing, head over to the Weinberg on March 29th to see Seldom Scene and Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver.

Also on March 15th, The Spires Brass Band is performing an evening of Celtic Music at FCC.

The Catoctin Wildlife and Preserve and Zoo opens in March, from 10AM-4PM, weather permitting.  It must be at least 40 degrees out and dry, so call ahead just to make sure.  301-271-3180.

Check out the calender of events at the Tourism Website for Frederick County. Also, for what’s happening at local bars (karaoke etc…) check out the News-Post guide to Frederick Entertainment and Events.

The Frederick Arts Council has planned several arts events in honor of Women’s History Month, based on the 2008 theme, “Women’s Vision, Women’s Art”.
