Jan. 27: Walkersville Issues Advisory to Boil Water
A manure spill upstream of the Town’s water plant may have contaminated the groundwater that is pumped and treated by the Town treatment plant. This boil water advisory is a precautionary measure in the event that contamination of the system has occurred. The Town recommends that residents served by this water system boil the water used for cooking and drinking purposes until further notice.
Cow poo in the water = not good.

And it isn’t the first time this has happened. And the last time there was supposed to be an emergency hook-up left in place with the city of Frederick. Guess what didn’t happen? Hopefully, the test results will come back early today and the filters changed at the water plant and the problem resolved.
But the farmer should be made to pay if MDE determines that this was preventable.

Coming back into town this afternoon, I noticed that the county and the city were laying out the pipes to connect Walkersville to city water. I checked with town hall and they said we will be on city of Frederick water for about a week until everything is cleared out of the system.

the restaurants have had to close, we are on bottled or boiled water, schools have to deal with no water fountains and preparing lunches without water, pumping sewage into a creek is deliberate and nasty act

Well after finding out who the farmer is, it is doubtful that the farmer will be held to account for his actions. He is part of the good old boy network. And the town keeps changing its story as to what has happened. It has gone from being a witnessing pumping operation to a mechanical malfunction. But the story has been documented in the FNP and the changes to the story are documented there should any of the groups in town chose to use it against the town. And with the special election coming up, maybe some changes will happen.

There were two spills apparently. FNP reported both, but sure hasn’t been clear in distinguishing the two when reporting the whole problem.

Not bovine poop. Porcine excrement, I’m afraid.

The Maryland Department of Environment is a disgrace. Enforcement is practically nil, and they turn a blind eye to all manner of outrages. This isn’t opinion, it’s documented fact.
If they aren’t going to protect the public, why keep the employees on the payroll?

I did hear that yesterday at a meeting in Walkersville to discuss the spill, that the farmer will be made to pay the costs involved with the cleanup/treatment of the spill. Cost upwards of 900,000. Do not know if that is fact or not, just what I heard from someone who attended the meeting.
