Earlier this week, I was watching The Late Show with David Letterman, and during one of his classic Great Moments in Presidential Speeches bits, he showed a video of President Bush from his visit last week to Frederick’s own Wright Manufacturing. I wish I could find a clip but his website doesn’t seem to include the year 2008 yet. I can’t find it on YouTube either. If anyone can find a clip, let me know!

All I saw was a loooong line of cars on New Design Rd. Why did the Bush caravan have to make it just in time to blockade every route between my home and my would be job interview???

Didn’t see it but did hear the speech on the radio. I didn’t know where Wright Mfg was located and I’m not too far from New Design rd.

Reminds me of the scene in “Dave” where Kevin Kline visits a factory and steps inside that robot-thing. Or when Massachusetts Governor Michael Dukakis (while running for President against George Bush Sr.) rode in the tank to show how tough he was. In other words, a ridiculous publicity stunt! Nothing against Wright Manufacturing or their standing mower, but seriously, who thought this visit was a priority for the leader of our country? I guess when you’re a lame duck, it doesn’t matter what you do. How much taxpayer money was spent on this little field trip, and how much did it hurt our local economy to have traffic snarled up for an entire afternoon? Couldn’t he have taken a helicopter?
