More Improvements to Baker Park Coming
Along with the Baker Park Band Shell getting a face lift, more improvements are expected to the pathway that runs through the park this coming spring.
The city’s most heavily used pathway will be getting a facelift this spring.
A new multi-use path will replace the existing path through Baker Park from the fountain near Bentz Street to the covered bridge at Fairview Avenue, said Frederick city planner Tim Davis. The current path is mostly used by those exercising and going to work, he said.
Upgrades will expand the path from 4 to 8 feet, making it easier and safer for bicyclists to pass, Davis said. The width will also improve handicapped access.
“We recognized a better quality facility for bicycles and pedestrians was needed because it’s such a high traffic area,” Davis said.
This is great news for those of us who like to walk through the park. I know there have been several times that I’ve had to get out of the way of bikes, strollers and dogs on leashes on those paths. Widening them makes sense!

Very good news! I love walking in Baker Park.
I never get out of the way for a bicyclist while walking in the park. They have to go around me. I hate to give up my portion of the path to those double and triple-wide baby carriages, too. I hope a painted stripe divides the path into pedestrian and cyclist lanes (two-thirds for pedestrians).
I look forward these improvements. Frederick could be more friendly to cyclists, pedestrians, joggers, etc. I also thank Mr. Davis and others for their efforts to improve Frederick.
I want to make a contribution towards the purchase of a memorial bench, in Mary Sayers’name, via “Friends of Baker Park”. Can you help me?
Deborah, here’s the information on donations:

I just heard on the radio this morning that they’re trying to connect Waterford Park with Baker Park via a tunnel. How cool that would be since i live on the other side of 15…
Does anyone have more details on this?
