No More Loco

Looks like another local coffee shop has shuttered it’s doors. Loco Jonny’s is no more according to this photo.

Well, that sucks. I never did make it over there, but it sounded like a cool spot.
I walked past Downtime Cafe yesterday and was bummed to see them closed as well. I think I had read here that they were closing, but was in denial until I actually saw it.
They barely had a chance…
Downtime Cafe reopened as Cafe Nola across the street from it’s old location.
Loco Jonny’s was in a tough location to succeed in my opinion.
It is a shame to see Loco gone, I liked his cafe.
On a more positive note Nola (the new Downtime) is great. My wife and I have been there many times and so far everything they have served to us has been enjoyed thoroughly.
Yep, downtime didn’t so much close as expand. Drop in and have a cup o’ coffee with Dave, Alex and the gang…
Great menu, too.
When I noticed that Downtime was closed, I crossed the street and peeked in the window at Nola. Looked a little chi-chi, compared to the funky hole in the wall that Downtime was. Does Nola still have that great selection of teas?
Oh, no! I did my best to encourage my friends & coworkers to go there, but it was in a terrible location – hidden at the end of the Weis strip, and I was amazed it lasted as long as it did.
P.S. The note on the webpage http://www.locojonnys.com suggests that he might reopen somewhere else. Let’s hope so.
La Dolce Vita Cafe did open! You’ve got to check them out.
Great coffee and realy nice little menu. We had some soup and dessert, atmosphere is awsome!
The owners run it and are a super nice couple who treated us like they’ve known us forever. Check it out!

I would invite you to visit The Coffee Table, near Fort Detrick in the Whittier residential community.

Well, I checked out Cafe Nola and I’ve gotta say I miss Downtime. I popped in at Nola to pick up a cup of tea to go, and had several minutes to check the place out while I was ignored at the front counter. My impression is that, where Downtime was low-key and cool, Nola is trying very hard to be hip.
So, where exactly are La Dolce Vita and The Coffee Table?
La Dolce Vita is located in the Carroll Creek park next to Hinode
The Coffee Table is located in Whittier. Go down Rosemont past Ft. Detrick and take a left onto Christopher Crossing. It’s in the little plaza on the lake. I really love it there and the staff are really great. Also, free wireless, which is very nice when you want to have some java, lunch, and do some work.
We went to brunch at Nola on Sunday and were very disappointed. My parents (the only two eating) had ordered two different dishes that both contained poached eggs. Both of their dishes sat under the heat lamp for so long that by the time they got their food the eggs were soft boiled, the greens on the plate were completely wilted, the steak was like shoe leather and the side of potatoes were wrinkled and dried up. The waiter took one look at the plates (and the wrinkled up noses of everyone at our table) and promptly offered to take both meals off of the bill. The service was incredibly slow – it took over 25 minutes to have 3 Bloody Marys delivered to the table.
The atmosphere was nice, although it was chilly – could have used a space heater with the cold blast coming in from the door everytime it opened. And our waiter was very helpful in trying to find seats to sit six of us together.
Someone should be watching the condition of what’s being brought out of the kitchen. Those dishes might have been awesome at plating but were a huge disappointment at the table.
La Dolce Vita is currently the best coffee in town. Their cup of coffee often equals that of Loco Jonny during his brief appearance on the scene. Loco was more consistent and I miss his place.
Is Loco Jonny still operating anywhere in the area?
Any new coffee shops on the scene?
The only newer one I can think of off the top of my head is the Main Cup in Middletown.

The Main Cup also has a great food and beverage menu. The patio is nice to sit on when the weather allows. Was there about 3 months ago and have been anxious to go back.
The other morning I had a nice cup of coffee at Moxie’s up on North Market Street. They’ve only been open a couple of weeks.
