Saturday Free-For-All: Your Favorite Restaurant

2007 July 14
by Guy

I have a question for all you foodies out there. What is your single most favorite place to eat at in Frederick?

It could be fast food or fine dining. Local or chain. Cheap or pricey. Popular or that little secret diner. It doesn’t matter. Just pick the one Frederick restaurant that makes your mouth water and share it in the comments.

I’d have to say Isabella’s at N. Market near Patrick St. We went there recently for lunch, and my, their fried asparagus tapas was (were?) incredible.

Ooh Proudgeek, that asparagus at Isabella’s is really awesome!!

My favorite is Monocacy Crossing. It’s close to my house, the food is delicious, and you can go casual or dress up for a nice occassion. Plus, they have outdoor seating for those nice summer evenings.

By the way, I don’t know if you’ve printed this here (I’m a recent new-comer), but Wegman’s has announced that it’ll open a store at Rt. 15 and Rt. 26. That’s near the new Shops at Monacacy area.

The Orchard – the mushrooms in cream are ridiculous (good)

I’m partial to Cafe Kyoko although I can only afford it once every month or two :)

I can’t pick just one. But among my favorites are Cacique, Bombay Grill, That Cuban Place, and Olde Town Tavern (although the service can be a little slow sometimes, it’s good for cheap drinks).

I love Isabellas, Carrabbas, and Chipotle!

We go to Clay Oven nearly once a week. YUMMY! For lunch, I like the Orchard the best. Indonesian stir fry with peanut sauce… mmmmmmm…

My hubby is a chocolate mouse officianado and The Orchard has the #1 chocolate mouse he’s EVER tasted.

I just tried the Ethiopian restaurant…can’t remember the name but it was delicious (downtown on Patrick). But you can’t beat the Tasting Room for consistently great food.

OK, totally not a gucci place, but I like the “Pretzel and Pizza place down on Market. I think it’s in between 2nd and 3rd. My favorite is a Cold Ham and Swiss on Foccaccia (that’s way too many c’s) I don’t even know the official name. That bread is sooo good.

    Liz,

Would you take kids to Monocacy Crossing? I checked out the website and the menu looks a little upscale for my girls.

  15. July 16, 2007

Sally, I have before. Their menu changes pretty often but my daughter has just ordered a side of mashed potatoes before. I have also asked for her chicken plain before. They will split dishes between two people as well. But they don’t have a children’s menu at all. I guess it would depend on how adventurous the kids are.

Wags or Miyako are the best for my money. Then again, I’m a recent college graduate and am not active in the better restaurants in Frederick (G Hunters, Tasting Room, Ductches Daughter). But i’ve done the whole downtown thing otherwise (Cacique, La Paz, Isabellas) and they’re ok. Definitely more fun to have a few drinks with friends and family than the food itself (at least for me)

My favorite changes as oldies close and new things replace them, but Brewer’s Alley is an old standby for me. Every bit of seafood I’ve had there so far has been excellent, and I love what they do with sweet potatos.

Has anyone yet tried the place that replaced West Side Cafe?

Oh. I should also have mentioned Lotus at Baughman and Patrick. Great Chinese food and the same waiters have been working there for years! Mai Tai’s are great, prawns with walnuts exquisite and I have never had better crab rangoon. I would recommend anythingo n the chef’s choice menu, really.

  23. July 25, 2007

    I agree Lotus is awesome.
