Carnival Season (2007)
*Please note, this is a post from 2007. The post for the 2008 carnival schedule is here!*
I haven’t been a huge fan of summer carnivals ever since, years ago in Ohio, Frog and I were on a ride and about halfway through, noticed a guy who was literally still putting the ride together. Still, the summer carnival is a big deal in Frederick County and, even though most of these are already over, I thought I’d provide a list of summer carnivals that I saw in the FNP:

I haven’t had a carnival experience quite like that, but I have always been a bit hesitant to get on some of the rides. I have to think that, as frequently as they tear down- move on to the next place- and reassemble these rides, there have to be a few nuts and bolts missing after a while. I still like going to the carnivals though, if just for nostalgia. They sort of harken back to a bygone era when we appreciated simple pleasures, and communities were closer-knit. Plus, my 2 year-old loved it. We took him to the Carroll Manor carnival a couple weeks ago, and man, you’d have thought he was at Disney World he was so thrilled. I hope they continue for at least a few more years, but I’m not optimistic. The night we went, it was very poorly attended.
Actually, the rides are very safe. I have seen them put up and taken down. They are also required to be inspected by the state. Now the people operating the rides sometimes is the question.
I just posted some pictures of the Walkersville Fire Company’s carnival so far up on their website at http://www.walkersvillefire.com Click on the photo album link and you will find a folder labeled Carnival 2007. There is a video of the fireworks finale from Tuesday night. There will be fire works again on Friday night.
Pajamamomma pointed out that the info for the Thurmont carnival was missing from this list. Here’s the info, from the Gazette:

Are you having the Winfield Carnival again this year. I’ve left messages and sent faxes to Scott Legore. Please let me know as soon as possible. Our company had a very good response last year.
Thank you,
Beverly
