Friday Free-for-all: A Cup of Joe
2007 April 20
I just read this poem about coffee and it got me thinking about the coffee shops of Frederick. I need a cup of Joe every morning to get me going and usually I brew some at home but sometimes I get it on the run. I must admit I usually get some Dunkin Donuts, but there are some great home grown coffee joints in Frederick.
Where do you go to get your caffeine injection?

Starbucks, although my favorite is Caribou coffee (closest is in Leesburg). I also like the coffee (and everything else) at Proof on Patrick in old town.
I’m not much of a coffee drinker but every once in a while when downtown, I like to get a cup at the Frederick Coffee Company on East Street.
I am a big fan of the “Redeye” at Market Street Cafe. If that doesn’t get you going, I don’t know what will.
I’m not much of a coffee drinker, either, but I love the atmosphere of coffee shops. So…
- Downtime Cafe is my favorite in Frederick. It’s teeny, but they have a good selection of tea and good food.
- Beans in the Belfry, in Brunswick, is a cool spot purely for the building it’s housed in (an old church). Decent tea and food.
- Lost Dog in Shepherdstown is soooo worth the drive. Great funky atmosphere with excellent tea & chai (and, I assume, coffee).
Downtime, mostly, but also Frederick Coffee Co.
They have wifi at Proof?
Last I checked, they don’t have WiFi at Proof.
Down Time serves a mean cappuccino!
Frederick Coffee Co. has good coffee and it’s only a dollar, including tax.
With all the great local coffee shops in our area it seems a crime to be going to chains.
A few days ago I enjoyed a “Mediterranean Sandwich” at the Down Time Cafe (23a East Patrick St.). It was delicous and the atmosphere was inviting and intimate. I recommend you give this local treasure a try!
I’ll try it! Thanks for the tip.
Try Loco Jonny’s off T.J. Drive. Best coffee I have ever had. Seriously.
Yes, Loco’s is the best coffee in Frederick! You’ll never go back to the chains again.
